Truckasaurus
Had I voted for this, Conan the Barbarian's score would definitely make my Top 5. It's sensational. Thrilled to see it made the cut.

Spoiler Blade Runner (1982) Original Music by Vangelis 315 Points Top 5 Placements: 1 Top 10 Placements: 1 2015 Placement: 17 (-38) In a stunning blow to Greek pride, Blade Runner suffered a hefty drop in 2017. The composer Vangelis used a mix of classical compositions with synthesizers to achieve the desired atmosphere of a film noir set in the future. One of the music centerpieces is the saxophone-dominated love theme. It notably took over a decade for the studio to release an official soundtrack album for the movie.

Elfman's music really captures the gothic fantasy nature of the movie, giving it a presence that feels real and yet outside of the world as well. Elfman has cited his work for this movie as one of his most favorite compositions.

Spoiler Cloud Atlas (2012) Composed by: Tom Tykwer, Reinhold Heil, and Johnny Klimek 319 Points 2015 Placement: 65 (+12) Taking a notable jump this year is the sci-fi epic by the Wachowski siblings and German director Tom Tykwer. Tykwer and his longtime collaborators began working on the music for the movie months before production even started. The soundtrack for the movie received near-universal acclaim, including a Golden Globe nomination. I believe it also won the BOFFY for Best Score as well.

Spoiler The Mission (1986) Original Music by Ennio Morricone 319 Points Top 5 Placements: 1 Top 10 Placements: 1 2015 Placement: 62 (+10) TIEBREAKER OVER CLOUD ATLAS DUE TO TIEBREAKER POINTS Ennio Morricone has worked with more directors than just Sergio Leone, even it's that collaboration he is best known for. Morricone stylized much of the music as a duel of sorts between Eurocentric, religious-inspired themes and more native South American styles before starting to meld them together. The main theme is one of the more highly regarded music cues of its generation, and the score has gone on to be considered one of the best film scores ever made. It's losing out on the Oscar to Round Midnight has been considered one of the more controversial Oscar events in the Score category.

Spoiler Interstellar (2014) Original Music by Hans Zimmer 323 Points Top 5 Placements: 1 Top 10 Placements: 2 2015 Placement: 22 (-29) SPACE ORGAN!!! The most recent tagteam between Nolan and Zimmer dropped a large chunk from 2015, and just misses out on the Top 50. Nolan has said he basically gave Zimmer a one-page outline describing the core of the film and told him to work one day on what the music for the movie sounded like. Zimmer complied and Nolan bought in hook, line, and sinker. Zimmer played every note of the score himself using his computer and synthesizer equipment initially before orchestral instruments were added in. The Space Organ itself was the 1926 organ located at London's Temple Church, which Nolan and Zimmer visited to record it being played.

Fancyarcher
Blade Runner's drop is not surprising. I'm sure a lot of people put it lower on their lists. It wasn't on mind, but I can't deny its a incredible score either. Interstellar is good, and it was on my list last time, but top 100 material it ain't.

Goffe
Well, the Blade Runner score is kinda unlistenable outside of the movie. Even within the movie I don't think it's particularly amazing. Functions well enough as an atmosphere builder, but that's it. Edited April 8, 2017 by Goffe

Seriously this is the kind of stuff you can't even call a Hot Take it deserves its own name/category. Alien Take or Unprocessable Take or something like that.
