The Hunger Games OS thread: 258M Total

That is relatively good. Bigger than the first TWILIGHT. Maybe bigger than JOHN CARTER.

It could give JC a run for its money...The grosses are not huge but still very good

Overseas grosses are negligible for this as expected. Not that Lionsgate cares. I understand they sold off foreign distribution rights.

They did? Do you have a link? So far I could not find anything but the idea makes sense for me.

Ah, okay, this is from the Hollywood Reporter:

Hunger Games is assured of being a profit generator for Lionsgate, which contends it kept marketing costs under $50 million. And the company, which plans on making three more Hunger Games films, covered a large share of the budget by selling off foreign rights.

So, they more or less will have the domestic gross and that's it.

Also gives more credence to our question before about splitting Mockingjay in 2... I am pretty sure that is going to happen.

And I think they'll be more than happy with domestic gross :D Especially since it says there the foreign sales already basically covered the budget.

Lionsgate isn't greedy and doesn't gamble it seems. They have a solid library and a good DVD conversion rate. I don't think they even want to be °big°.In the end that just means you lose your independence and become part of a multi.

Hmmm..that seems rather low. It must have had poor weekdays or something...2 weeks of holidays in some countries should do it good now.

In many countries it opened on Wednesday or Thursday, so a the $59M opening already included a lot of weekdays. Dropping 7% (from $59M to $54.9M) without any significant new markets seems excellent to me.
