This is the box office thread for the Middle East. Middle East box office is currently not really big but going to boom big time in next 5 years, so get on the train before the things start getting bigger. Majority of Middle East box office comes from Turkey, UAE-GCC countries, Egypt and Lebanon but with re-opening of theaters in Saudi Arabia, that is soon going to change in a big way.

I will be sharing the UAE and Saudi Arabia box office numbers in this thread regularly. Numbers for Turkey can be checked here and Egypt here.

Highest Grossing Films in UAE

Highest Grossing Films in Saudi Arabia

Most Watched Hollywood Films in Turkey

How does NWH do 17 million in Saudi Arabia while Endgame only did 3 million?

Exchange rates? I know there's been market expansion but that's just too much (expansion), especially in a pandemic

Do all those blank spots (which saudi arabia has many) mean the movie in that column simply did not release there?

EDIT: Google had the answer, I guess numbers like that are what happens when you ban cinemas

Thought finally will have MCU film on Eid in Middle East. Alas. Just cut the damn scenes and release it.

Not only we miss a good BO performance but fans miss out on their favs and will be forced to pirate. The film is about Dr Strange vs Wanda(s) and Strange (s). Let it be that.

It is about that, but some ridiculous countries wanna ban for innocuous stuff with minor characters. That's too bad but completely those countries fault. If Italy decided to ban people whose last name ends in Z and this movie got banned there, doesn't mean marvel should change anything about it, the offending country should change the stupid policy.

May be mute Z in the name of character.

Why be regressive for a bunch of snowflakes who throw hissy fits at the mere inclusion of a gay character. Its not like there is full blown gay sex scene in the movie or anything.

Although the article I posted said that Disney refused to cut Eternals for Saudi and others but an edited version was released in UAE. So I don't know what was that about. Why edit for one and not for others?

As I understand UAE didn't had problem with world being created by Celestials. So just edited version was released.

Turkey Box Office

DS: MOM's OD : $700K (~₺10.5M)

Almost exceeding Dr. Strange (2016) Lifetime box office.

For Record, Doctor Strange opening week was ₺3.051.109 &ended with ₺11.232.742

I think raw admissions are going to be a far better metric, since the Turkish Lira has lost a lot of value since the release of the first Strange. We won't be getting those until Monday evening though.

Still, on a per-screening basis, the movie is performing slightly better than Batman at my local theater. Around 80% occupancy per screening. The advantage here is that unlike Batman which had to go up against a massive local biopic, Dr. Strange has little to no competition, which has resulted in it getting a shit ton of screenings (arguably more than No Way Home even).

The Batman opened to around 330K admissions here. I'm going o/u 600K for Strange. Just my gut though.
