Crowd Reports Thread

Asteroid City:

8/28, 7 PM, Indie theater owned by the local film society.

The room was 50-60% full. Trailers:

- Barbie's first trailer (bit of chat afterwards)

- Mission Impossible's first trailer (HUGE reaction at the stunt at the end)

- Blue Jean

- Past Lives

The crowd was super into the movie, not unexpectedly for this type of audience. Lots of laughs during it. Honestly watching a Wes movie with this kind of crowd makes it a lot more enjoyable.

Regal Mystery Movie (Theater Camp)

7:00 PM 6/26

85% Full

Trailers:

Next Goal Wins

Poor Things

Barbie

2 people walked out within the first 10 minutes. Another 6 walked around around the hour mark. Good amount of laughs from the audience though. Certainly a niche movie, but most of our theater seemed to like it. Lots of people arrived late too. I'm talking up to half an hour after the movie started.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

7:00 PM 6/29 Dolby Atmos

80% Full

Trailers:

Haunted Mansion

Teenage Mutnant Ninja Turtles

Oppenheimer

Mission Impossible

Not much of a reaction from the audience. There were some cheers when Sallah appeared. Otherwise, maybe 3 moments that got laughs from the audience. Everyone seemed bored

3rd time seeing Elemental

AMC Southlake. Saturday July 1 2023. 6:45

45 or 50 people there, 90% full.

This audience seemed to think Wade's family was particularly funny. Lots of laughs. I think I even heard sniffles and sobs at emotional moments.

Loud applause from all rows when the credits rolled.

Mission Impossible 7

7/11 6:30 PM Dolby Atmos

90% Full

Trailers:

Gran Turismo

The Creator

Dune Part 2

Oppenheimer

The typical reaction you'd get from a crowd at a blockbuster. Laughs at the funny moments, gasps at the big action set pieces. Nothing out of the ordinary. Everyone seemed to have a good time.

Sound of Freedom

7/12 3:50PM

95% Full. Only a few seats in the front row. This was the most crowded I've ever seen a mid weekday show in the afternoon before.

Trailers:

Next Goal Wins

Oppenheimer

Problemista

Priscilla

Audible disgust and umcomfort at scenes in the beginning of the kids being groomed and live footage of the kidnappings. A few of the more light hearted moments got chuckles. Some old dude walked in all grumpy complaning about how his seat was too close and devoured his popcorn and drink loudly. Most of the crowd stayed for the special message from Jim Caviezel during the credits.

Barbie (Blowout Party advanced screening)

7/19

100% sold out

Mostly women, a few kids and maybe 5 men total.

No trailers

Most of the audience loved the movie, the movie was funny. Even the scenes that I read ahead of time that were supposed to be serious the audience was laughing. Movie got an applause at the end from the crowd. Most of the crowd came wearing pink so it was mostly Barbie fans.

Barbie
DOLBY
-> 100% sold out; 66/33 female/male split. 2/3rd of the people, including our group, were 13-22~. Lots of HUGE groups, like 7+.

Trailers:

Wonka (huge reaction)
Dune 2 (huge reaction)
Meg 2

Audience was really really really into it, cheers for almost every line, legit applause after America Ferrerra's speech at the end. Some guys were pissed and loudly voiced how they hate the 'SJW speeches' and were met by boos from the whole theatre lol. legit 50%~ of the theatre was wearing pink or barbie themed clothing. saw a lot of 'Barbenheimer' shirts too, about 20% of the same audience stayed for Oppenheimer (same screen). Very very fun as a crowd experience!

Oppenheimer

DOLBY

-> 100% sold out; 60/40 Male/Female. about 50%~ of the audience was under 21 here too (it's not R rated in my country). Huge groups, but less so than barbie.

Trailers:
Dune 2

Napoleon

(I couldn't recognize one and missed the title)

Some cheers at some of the really cool moments — 'i am become' line, RDJ and Cilian intros, Einstein lol, the trinity test after the sound came in (a collective holy fucking shit moment from the audience, felt like we were on an amusement park ride), Emily blunt's speech, the last line of the movie. As mentioned for Barbie, about a fifth of the audience was the same (Barbie was at 4:10 and Opp at 6:50 on the same screen).
