She definitely cares lol. She wants an Oscar BAD. Playing Harley Quinn in a Joker sequel should’ve been an easy way to do that.

No actress has ever won an Oscar for playing a comic book character, Angela Bassett was even the first to be nominated for that kind of role 2 years ago, there's no really a track history that would have suggested that this would have been an "easy way" winning for this role and this has been said for months in the Awards Worthy board.

joker was a multinominated Oscar project and the main actor won the Oscar. So it's not like taking a part on a marvel movie or a Wonder Woman sequel. She clearly accepted the part with some intention.

Saying that 90% of actors wants to win an Oscar so i don't see the problem if she wants that.

Would take her over Frances, Kristin Scott Thomas should have been in supporting imo.

Madonna over Frances McDormand in Fargo? 😄 Madonna has only ever given one good performance: in A League of Their Own, where she played a fun, oversexed shrew (ie herself before she became annoying)

What works for male winning roles not always applied to female ones, especially when it comes to dark characters, the Joker character had already a praised winning performance as well.

The point is that if you "desperately" want an Oscar there are more traditional bait roles, sequels have rarely lead to acting Oscar wins-nominations, not to mention her role in this is small and for sure she was aware of that.

This feels like a far better showcasing of the musical elements compared to the official second trailer. They're also very much doing damage control to showcase a lot of Lady Gaga since reviews criticise her underuse. Let's hope it can move the needle a bit.

kii at the marketing regrouping and focusing their efforts on Gaga now after most critics said that Gaga feels very underutilized and that Phillips should've used her character more than just propping up Joker. better late than never

Should have just made a Harley Quinn movie with Gaga as Harley.  Leave Phoenix out of it.

Phoenix is really despised right now around Hollywood for bailing on that movie that was about to film. When this film disappoints he will be the main one blamed.

There's also news that he dropped out of SPLIT two weeks before filming.

Madonna? Should have won? For Evita? 1996's BA was STACKED. One brilliant actress after another.

Correct.

And to make matter worse, Antonio Bandaras as Che got better reviews then Madonna did......

"Oh what a circus, what a Show".....

Is there any merit to this notion that a late marketing push means that a studio is desperate?

Depends.

I get the feeling that WB thought Joker 2 would pretty much sell itself, no need for a big push except to let people know the date and movie times, but the low advance sales has probably pushed some panic buttons at WB,

But, yes, there have been some desperate last minute pushes. "Battleship" is an example. Universal spent 100 Million on a last minute campaign to save the film, but it still bombed bigtime.
