Guess they really didn't want to give it up even after Deadpool moved to the weekend after, especially when this is PG-13 and that is R. DM2 dropped 48% on its 2nd weekend. DM4 would be at a $37.6M weekend with that kind of drop. I doubt Twisters would have impacted it much. By not moving its date, this is just Universal protecting the Minions IP plain and simple. Minions is one their biggest IPs ever with ticket sales, merchandise sales, and even has a part in their theme parks. titanic2187
They should pull a MI8 strategy. Move up official release date to Wednesday with preview started on Tuesday and tons of tons of EA over the weekend before the OW to max out its PLF exposure. This isn’t a barbieheimer situation where barbie didn’t need an PLF treatment.

PG-13 v R may very well make a difference, and unlike Dead Reckoning there's no Barbie afterwards. Also I'm sure Uni is banking on the fact that Twisters and Deadpool will be the 2 last blockbusters of this summer. Not EVERYONE will see Deadpool. Twisters will be the other choice. Of couse we can all blame the writers strike for moving DP3 from its original May date.

So basically we will find out how well DR Part 1 might have done last year if it only had to face Oppenheimer and not Barbie also. Not really but sort of I guess. Krissykins
Brandon Perea was a scene stealer in Nope too, so I’m glad to see he’s done it again here.

But largely, theyre probably hoping to benefit from the "people are going to the movies" mood. People send tiktoks and snaps from theaters and it inspired others to go, its like black Friday

AniNate
Officially open in Indonesia now and I think Australia soon-ish. Should get getting a host of English-language reactions sometime in the next day. AniNate
Seems this will in fact be the legit test of how much nostalgia there is for 90s disaster porn that Resurgence couldn't deliver on
Insomnia
Well the reactions are there. Let's see if it's a walk up monster like a lot of us thought. I've kind of been losing hope lately with the pace not really improving for presales.
AniNate
Australia opens this weekend, so might get something of an idea of just what the American box office potential is here from that
emoviefan
Pretty solid reactions and reviews so far. Fingers crossed it helps with ticket sales. 45-55 still seems most likely. Unless walkups and late buys explode. Possible

I've kind of been losing hope lately with the pace not really improving for presales. Problem is people have gotten out of the movie every weekend habit, and a film has to offer more then just a fun two hours to really break out. I guess people expect more their money nowdays, given the "in a few eeks I can can watch this for alot less on Streaming" reality. And, bluntly, looks as if Deadpool might suck sort of suck the air out of the ticket sales room. Certainly a lot fewer people will go to more then one movie a week then used to.
