While the delay is not certain (far from that tbh), it’s still the movie with the most chances to ended up in 2024 tho

Disney isn’t delaying anything, they’re promoting all their movies already

The horror and smaller movies seems all very ready to release as well

The award movies are changing a little but not much and all keeping dates this year, so unless Oscar is delayed, they won’t either

Only Dune and Hunger Games seems in danger for the rest of the year, talking about relevant movies

Hunger Games (and the other Lionsgate movies on the schedule this year) seems like it's staying where it is tbh. It's too bad that the strikes have made everyone fearful of moving up because October looks on the barren side now while November (and sequel-filled September before it) is on the crowded side of the street.

@keysersoze123 Sorry to bother but you mentioned on the tracking thread that you were feeling good about this film's opening. Are you seeing some encouraging metrics in terms of trailer views and social media?

Trailer metrics are solid. At this point I am hopeful more than confident. Let us see how things go once presales start. Hope the strike ends and the charismatic cast can be part of promotions. We will know for sure then for sure.

So like...if Vanity Fair just published this, that means there's no delay, right? They wouldn't want to fuck with your boy right? Right? Right????????????????????

That article is from April, before the first trailer came out. Why they republished it, not sure.

That Aaron Taylor-Johnson Esquire cover story to promote Kraven the Hunter came out the other week and that movie won't be seeing the light of day for another year. That tends to be an amusing problem whenever movies end up getting delayed on such short notice at a point where it's too late to push back the other marketing stuff.

It's usually around this time that the major publications post their splashy fall/holiday movie articles and the fact that the actors are on strike means they have no major exclusives unless they were completed pre-July 14. We can probably kiss those bye bye this year beyond recycled items from earlier as the unsure nature of everything in the industry has rendered the fall preview articles pointless if a lot of movies might be missing their dates.

Nah, stuff like these are pre-scheduled. Esquire also just had one that was very clearly meant to be for Kraven.

The big thing to wait for is a TV spot, or of course a trade saying a calls been made.

Dune 2 isn't moving. The only good release date it can get in 2024 is DP3's date, but why would WB push Dune2 to 2024 when they can move up Furiosa to the DP3 date?

It's reasonable to assume they want Furiosa at Cannes (and having Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth walking the massive red carpet) like Fury Road was, hence the late May release date.

We shall see though. With the studios having already lost nearly 1.5 month's worth of a movie schedule due to a total work stoppage (and no sign of that ending soon), the 2024 (and most likely 2025) movie schedule as it appears now is on the verge of a lot of adjustments.

I think people here read too much into promotional timelines in general. Until tickets are on sale delay is always on the table. Always.

100%. Its biggest shot at a significant increase is domestically (not saying OS can't increase, but the impact of COVID and day-and-date was far greater domestically), and the cast would be a major asset for promotion there in the lead up. If the strikes drag on, they may still decide it's worth it, with a significant IMAX window and a less-than-stellar MCU to compete with, but they are still very clearly in a wait-and-see pattern.

For what it's worth, I think we're still in for quite a bit of reshuffling for next year, so good windows for it in 2024 will appear.

Furiosa is a much better slot, May is way too crowded. Furiosa has the best chance at getting a similar IMAX window than the summer.

Eh, normally true, but we have a specific window of when the decision is going to be made by, especially since it can't just move unilaterally since WB and Legendary both have to agree to any delay.

It might not be the main reason for an eventual delay, but I do think increasing this movie's Oscar prospects is on the studios mind when considering a delay.

Barbie and Oppenheimer are two genre movies with massive box office and extremely strong Oscar chances. This decreases, I think, Dune's Oscar chances, specially as I don't think we'll see an award season dominated by three genre movies. Not to mention other strong contenders, like Killers of the Flower Moon and whatever else might gain award momentum in the coming months.

There's no way, for example, that Gerwig, Nolan and Scorsese are missing a Best Director nomination. With those 3 spots already pre-filled, I highly doubt Villeneuve would be able to squeeze in with yet another genre movie

I need to give that game a try, it's been on Early Access for over a year now.

The tie-in products seem to be ramping up. There's a rumor that a Ornithopter LEGO set is being released in October, as is a new Art and Soul of Dune book and a brand new expansion for the awesome board game Dune Imperium. Speaking of which, if the expansion keeps its release date but the movie is indeed delayed, there should be plenty visual spoilers in the deck of cards in that game, as was the case with the first release of Dune Imperium
