So I did a thing...

Chain Theaters Sold Capacity % Sold Sales
AMC 179 41,246 56,177 73.42% $973,879.32
Century 2 439 531 82.67% $7,484.98
Cinemark 9 1,931 2,594 74.44% $30,483.61
CMX 1 179 265 67.55% $3,254.22
Harkins 1 356 445 80.00% $5,696.00
Malco 3 532 835 63.71% $9,304.96
Marcus 2 427 589 72.50% $6,785.28
Megaplex 5 1,848 2,738 67.49% $26,666.64
Other 15 3,142 4,787 65.64% $57,955.00
Premiere 2 294 448 65.63% $3,982.90
Regal 91 18,583 27,816 66.81% $372,262.94
Santikos 1 435 449 96.88% $7,416.75
Grand Total 311 69,412 97,674 71.06% $1,505,172.60

This was taken throughout today so obviously will be higher now.  Definitely won't be able to do this every day, but sales looking really good across the board.  I pulled every show that had reserved seating on Fandango; think I'm missing maybe 20 shows from what I could tell on the official movie site list.

What's the point?  Is it really bragging rights if they break their own record when it's about 188m from the actual record?   Or 90m off a movie that opened 2 months ago?

What’s the WB/March adjusted record anyway?

More studios should follow WB’s lead here. Just throw some really upcharged PLF only showings up for Mon Tues and Wed night (these would easily sellout even with another 20% price increase imo) can snag some good WOM from the diehards and more of them will contribute to “OW” twice than if you started on Th.

Main problem may be if people start discussing the plot openly on on social media by Tues.

Good idea but one infinitely easier to do in an almost dead market.  Not as easy if there's another blockbuster that just opened that's already using IMAX and the PLFs

That strategy would have been awful for Infinity War, Endgame and NWH.

edit: not  Box Office wise, but beacuse of spoilers.

Well. That's one way to do it.

Keaton, Bale and Pattinson taking on Nicholson, Joaquin, Bale and Neeson Will break Endgame records

record would fall by 8 PM EST Sat night no doubt. Eminent domain would be utilized to rapidly construct emergency-needed theaters (like china building those hospitals in 24 hours during covid outbreak) to handle public unrest due to inability to obtain tickets

Unless you have Endgame level demand, I think these additional showings do nothing for the weekend other than diluting the FSS a bit.
