el sid
The second trend is done pretty fast. Exactly nothing changed. The weather everywhere is still perfect and the weather service predicts this will continue on Sunday. PS: The second new release "Triple 9" which started in 176 theaters should have 40k admissions. Fits to the very modest numbers all around this weekend.
Aristis
The third trend, now, looks even worse. CW 290k (with previews >50% now ) Bad N. 160k TJB 100k Zoo 32,5k terrible weekend...

With "better" weather, CW would do Avengers numbers.

Oh - I hope it's not too bad; a friend of ours is at Plasencia atm for a University project, he has to do some very delicate outdoor studies Edited May 8, 2016 by IndustriousAngel
Giesi
According to some weather forecasts, next weekend looks to be colder and rainier, so we expect soft drops.

I can't believe Box Office has me rooting for bad weather 4,000 miles away but yeah bring on the cold and rain for Germany, UK, France and Russia.

Quigley
Does anyone know if there is any sort of study that proves, or provides strong evidence for, a relationship between weather and box office grosses? I mean, the correlation is quite obvious but causation is a completely different matter.

I mean, the correlation is quite obvious but causation is a completely different matter. You really don't need a study here ... you see, there's only 24 hours to a day, so the amount of time spent on leisure activities is limited - you can't be sitting by the pool and going to the movies at the same time. The numbers of people doing outdoor activities and indoor activities are, as a physician would term it, "communicating vessels" - so, if the baths and beergardens are packed, the theaters get empty. Because here in central Europe, outdoor activities are still, by far, nr. 1. It might be different in countries where there's a strong indoor entertainment culture (Canada, USA, maybe Russia), but in Austria and Germany, everyone is outside if weather permits. Ent
Yep. The sunny days in Europe, Belgium included is the main factor why theaters attendance dropped more than usual this weekend. I went seeing it again but most people were oustide sipping sodas with friends at cafes and restaurants or at the Nothern sea enjoying the first great sunny days of the year. The temperatures has rosen drastically in a few days. In Belgium, a lot of companies potponned to friday the off day from Labour Day that came out last sunday. So people had a long extended weekend from thursday (an official holliday) to sunday and many went on a trip to enjoy that super sunny time after the recent cold from end of april. People should understand that we don't have sunny days so often in continental northern Europe. I was still wearing my heavy coat on till end of April. Everytime there is some unexpected sunny days coming out, especially after long periods of rain and cold, we go outside enjoying it more than anything because it is so rare. So, what's on next? Angy Birds is a complete mystery to me but might actually be the nr.1 choice for families; with weather hopefully a bit rainier 200 - 300k admissions should be possible. The other interesting release is Victor Frankenstein; sadly the good cast will not mean much when it comes to BO. Some small domestic comedies try to cater to a rather dry market so maybe we'll see one of them surprise but I guess not.
