IndustriousAngel
Sadly, no monster weekend for Godzilla - first estimate has it at 500k for the weekend, that isn't even the highest 2014 opening. #2: Neighbors - 300k #3: TOW - 160k
IndustriousAngel
uh-oh, Sat trend even worse: #1: Godzilla - 425k #2: Neighbors - 325k (very nice, about -33%) #3: TOW - 150k (not bad either, -23%!) #4: Rio2 - 60k #5: Stereo - 50k #6: Lego - 40k #7: TASM2 - 30k While it's a nice surprise that german thriller "Stereo" can open on #5, it's rare indeed that 50k admissions will bring you into the Top5. Claire of Themyscira
Ugh. Gotta fly to Germany to whoop some ass.
IndustriousAngel
maybe that's the problem here ... in the future, with CGI getting cheaper, I guess we'll get localized versions of disaster movies, so in Germany Godzilla could destroy Hamburg.
Rudolf
In my opinion all those creature-features suffer from an unbelievable moving monster. I saw my first Godzilla movie in the 1970s. A Japanese actor in a Halloween costume was not convincing enough. Even Jurassic Park was a bit of a dissapointment there. I liked the 2005 King Kong movie in that regard. The Emmerich Gozilla was too fast to be believable as that big a lizard (or whatever). People want to be made dreaming in a theater. Avatar did the unimaginable: to avoid the uncanny valley. Perhaps better movies with believable phantasy creatures will be common place in the future, but people are doubtful at present.

IndustriousAngel
yep, that weekend turned a lot uglier than expected I'll be away from the forums for a few weeks (travelling in Britain) but will resume my G+A charts once I'm back! Rudolf
500 to 425 to 360, not great. very frontloaded, perhaps word spread, that it is a creature feature and not a disaster movie
