ThatWaluigiDude
DC League of Super Pets released in 2nd place yesterday, behind Minions 2. On one hand there is a good chance Minions is still flat from the last thursday, but of course that first day of Pets should've be better. ThatWaluigiDude
So hey, I decided from now on to start posting the Filmow scores for the new releases once in a while. While not perfect, this is a good metric to determine WoM. This is how you should read it: - Above 4.0: Amazing - 3.7-3.9: Pretty good - 3.4-3.6: Good - 3.1-3.3: Mediocre - Bellow 3.0: Bad DC League of Super Pets - 3.7 Jurassic World: Dominion - 2.9 X - 3.5 Lightyear - 3.3 Minions 2 - 3.5 The Black Phone - 3.5 Elvis - 4.2 Top Gun Maverick - 4.4 Thor: Love and Thunder - 3.2 EEAAO - 4.3 Pluft: O Fantasminha - 2.8 Edited July 31, 2022 by ThatWaluigiDude

Compared to the other WAG movies it was the best opening for them for a non Lego movie, above Space Jam 2 (R$3.6M), Teen Titans Go (R$3.9M), Storks (R$4.8M) and Smallfoot (R$5.1M). All of these had good legs and all finished above R$13M, I expect the same for Super Pets. Overall pretty good weekend for the holdovers and Thor is now the 3rd best selling movie of the year, with Minions 2 joining the top 5 soon. Elvis also looks like it might join the 1 million tickets club. Next weekend releases Bullet Train, O Palestrante and Vanishing. This month the amount of blockbusters slow down and give space to brazilian movies in line to try to finally get a big hit, starting with O Palestrante. We still have some interesting US movies this month, but september looks straight up depressing.

Any screen/location count to determine wide of the re-release? Because, in Japan, it will only be released on two locations (Ikebukuro HUMAX Cinemas &Osaka Station City Cinema) from September 9. Thanks. I see, in Japan, theatre normally decline to show film which are on VOD/Digital - No Way Home is scheduled for Prime Video release on August 27. So, I guess it's re-release strategy is hampering.
ThatWaluigiDude
Minions 2 just had its first major drop. School is back this week and during monday-wednesday the movie did ~R$1.8M, a 73% drop from the same period last week. Thor did around that but it took a slight lead, now is unsure if Minions will pass it. Super Pets also had it rough and Pluft pretty much ceased to exist. The hope now is that those stabilize during saturday and sunday and during next week. 1
ThatWaluigiDude
Bullet Train opened this thursday on 1st place, initial audience score is a really good 4.1. O Palestrante (3.6 score) had a miserable first day at 7th place. The trailer was one of the unfunniest shit I've seen this year, so no shock there.
ThatWaluigiDude
Ah yes, Deadline, you are absolutely correct. I'm pretty sure Minions 2 did indeed made R$45M in this weekend alone. 1

To prove the issue was the first week of school and not the movies, Minions 2 and Super Pets had very huge increases on saturday, with Pets jumping +268% compared to the friday. Even O Palestrante, I wasn't even expecting it to beat R$1M (First day was really, really awful). In other news, Thor and Bullet Train are sniffing each other's necks and Thor is really close to pass The Batman to become the movie no. 2 of the year. Pre-sales of X also got it around R$70k. Next weekend releases X, Beast and Papai é Pop. Edited August 9, 2022 by ThatWaluigiDude

ThatWaluigiDude
Yesterday, Beast released in 4th, The Twin in 9th and Papai é Pop in 10th. Abysmal opening for Papai é Pop, even more so considering it had the highest circuit from the top 10. Is the second week in a row a highly advertised star-driven brazilian comedy bombs. Things are bad.
ThatWaluigiDude
Box office 11-14 august Movie Box Office (R$) Change (%) Total (R$) Admissions total (Est) 1 Minions 2: Rise of Gru 2.453.000 -44.3% 106.794.000 5.903.000 2 Thor: Love and Thunder 2.217.000 -43.2% 116.909.000 5.980.000 3 Bullet Train 2.155.000 -43.8% 7.080.000 338.900 4 The Beast 1.634.000 --- 1.634.000 82.000 5 DC League of the Super Pets 1.364.000 -48.8% 11.300.000 615.300 6 Elvis 1.296.000 -38.6% 22.300.000 951.400 7 The Black Phone 1.083.000 -50.1% 17.000.000 933.700 8 Top Gun: Maverick 720.000 +19.6% 108.056.000 4.920.000 9 The Twin 587.000 --- 587.000 30.000 10 Papai é Pop 514.000 --- 514.000 25.700 Hear that? Is the sound of me once again getting anxious about Elvis and Black Phone reaching the million admissions. And now, for Maverick reaching 5 millions. Bad weekend. Father's day was on sunday and, as the pattern, holidays in the middle of the weekend hurt the legs, but at least the dads helped Top Gun to improve. During the mid-week Thor and BT took turns at 1st place and once again Minions took the lead for the weekend, 4th week in a row. According to Filme B's estimates Thor is already passed 6 million tickets, for Comscore's slightly bellow estimates is almost there. For the new releases, Beast scored 3.3, The Twin 2.6 and Papai é Pop 3.5. X scored 3.5 but failed to chart. Next weekend releases Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero and the locals 45 do Segundo Tempo and Maior que o Mundo. ThatWaluigiDude
Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero sold last week <5% of total tickets. The pre-sales aren't bad, but haven't caught fire yet, Jujutsu was doing better. But not to lose hope, last movie had a run more similar to a traditional animated movie rather than an anime and vast majority of screenings are dubbed, so it could just be a sign that it will repeat that.
ThatWaluigiDude
Dragon Ball is out tomorrow on 950 screens. That is the largest circuit given to an anime of all time. Lack of big new releases helped boost that number.
ThatWaluigiDude
Dragon Ball Super released at 1st place yesterday, with apparently a good distance from the second place (Bullet Train). 3.6 audiences score. Reminder that if it does manages to win the weekend, it will be the first anime to do it so since Pokemon 3, 21 years ago. 3
