$3.2M for Minions 2, Deadline definitely overestimated.

What's wrong with Brazil ? The first movie opened to around $7.3m.

Also, before pandemic, box office contribution from Brazil and Mexico were quite comparable but that correlation seem broken now with Brazil continuously lagging behind Mexico for a lot of movies.

Real has struggled more than peso. Peso has fallen as well but somehow has managed to stabilize better.

Also inflation hasn't been reflected on ticket prices in Brazil. At least not throughout 2021 and early 2022 while in Mexico ticket prices have increased up to 30% depending the market.

Thor saw the second best opening of the year with almost two million tickets sold, also confortably ahead of Ragnarok. Minions 2 had an amazing hold and Maverick will pass R$100M before next weekend, on the other hand Lightyear fell off a cliff and DS2 is gone for good. JWD also took a tumble, the final numbers will come close of FK's R$81M, but it will not pass it. Sonic 2 ressurrected just like Sing 2 last weekend.

Next weekend will release Elvis and Crimes of the Future.

9 Crimes of the Future 63.000 --- 90.000 4.180
10 Lola et ses Frères 14.000 -48.1% 55.000 2.730

Was expecting a lot worse from Thor, giving the bad reception, but I guess not having another cbm right now helps. Minions 2 have passed Sonic 2 as the biggest family movie from the pandemic, despite still being down from the first one the holds are quite similar. Elvis released bellow Bohemian Rapsody but above Rocketman.

Next weekend we will see the full release of The Black Phone and the locals Ela e Eu and Pluft - O Fantasminha. Pluft by the way is the first brazilian 3D movie in 9 years and have a decent amount of marketing behind. Wonder if that will translate to box office.

10 Good Luck to You, Leo Grande (Pre-opening) 60.000 --- 60.000 2.200

Minions 2 is back at the top with another incredible hold, Elvis had a fantastic second week and Black Phone, counting the pre-opening, had the best release of a horror movie from the pandemic. Despite the big circuit and the premium screenings, Pluft failed to crack the top 5. Filme B wrote an article on how despite the success from the blockbusters the brazilian market still have to re-learn on how to market the medium-sized movies and the local productions, and that is very much true. Weekdays are back on playing as strong as the weekends and that is the hope for Pluft now.

Next weekend releases DC League of Super Pets, the full release of Leo Grande and Christiane F. will have special screens to celebrate the 40 years anniversary. X is also supposed to have the pre-release but I am not sure if it is next weekend or the weekend after that.

Yesterday Thor passed the R$100M mark, while Minions 2 reached 5 million tickets sold (R$89M). Minions also already passed Top Gun Maverick on the total of tickets sold, despite still being more than R$15M behind on the box office total.

How come TGM average ticket price is so much expensive than M2 and Thor4?

Kids and students gets half-off on the ticket price, while Minions and Thor are popular to children and teens paying cheaper TGM's audience is made mainly by grown ups paying the full price. Elvis is another one if you notice that the average ticket looks more expensive than the other movies.
