It's kinda weird that people just keep pointing out Zaslav. Like, aren't all the studio heads doing literally the exact same thing? Iger named his own replacement, then had to come back because his replacement sucked so bad. Then Iger not only cancelled but removed many shows. And ALSO presided over a 5-month work stoppage before giving up, having won 0 concessions.

Zaslav and Iger are like the boogiemen of CEOs in America. It's kind boring at this point

It did amuse me when Fran Drescher called out the CEOS for having all the money having just come back from Italy.

Barbie means Zaslav is probably safe for now. He's lucky that movie being such a big hit means everyone's forgotten about all his Flash boasting.

The Flash was definitely egg on his face. But I don't think Zsalav is leaving unless it's of his own volition or a story breaks about him doing/saying something heinous.

As far as Iger is concerned, Disney doesn't really have any better options. If they're going to get out of their rut at all, he is probably their best hope of doing it. He has also demonstrated far more humility than Chapek ever did (which isn't saying much but still)

Zaslav wouldn't lose his job over one movie anyway, he's in charge of WBD, not just Warner Bros so if they have growth in other areas then he's not going anytime soon.

And just like Zaslav, Iger is in almost no danger of getting the boot. As soon as revenue in the parks goes back up and they get more sizeable box office hits, the calls for his head will die down.

Same as it ever was.

The chances of Iger getting the boot is very low as well, he's only been back 10 months and probably it's a long term thing so they can pick a successor before he retires again.

I mean you can do the same thing to Iger what other people are doing to Zas if you really want to. CEOs suck, capitalism sucks. Everybody can get ribbed on. You don't have to go all "oh why aren't people also being mean to this guy?" Just...do it. Not that hard.

Disney having Elio/Snow White/Planet of the Apes/Inside Out 2 only for 2024 releases on that release date spreadsheet a while back after the SAG-AFTRA strike had already begun indicates they plan on keeping those where they are (March has become their favored month for live-action princess remakes). Captain America's initial move indicated that it might not be ready in time for early May but that depends on how much post work needs to be done on it. We'll see where everyone stands when the strike is over because everyone will have to move stuff around.

But would Disney leave that May date open for someone else to grab? It seems unlikely.

I still think DP3 will swap dates with Captain America but I could also see it staying in May depending on if it’ll need similar post production time to the first two films (both of which began filming less than a year out from release if I recall correctly).

Btw, surely the AMPTP starts speaking with SAG this week right? Obviously, “no one knows anything” as William Goldman said, but if they managed to find something with the WGA (as of now) they gotta be prepping something for the actors now so they can start filming and promo tours again.

Tbh a lot of Disney’s current problems are because of Iger.

They can always move Planet of the Apes up (or WB can move Furiosa up since they're both currently set for Memorial Day weekend and are well into post), though I'm guessing Hollywood wants to kick off the summer movie season with more of a bang and those movies aren't big enough. Godzilla x Kong is set for mid-April at the moment so that can always shift three weeks.

If SAG-AFTRA is resolved in the next few weeks that might be enough for AFI to be the only fall festival to be saved as far as star appearances are concerned. Usually much more low-key than Venice/TIFF/NYFF but might be a bigger deal than usual this year, Maestro is the closing night film so that would be one BCoop festival appearance.

I think it’s mostly because Zazlav did it first. None of these streaming services were really removing their own movies and shows or canceling stuff en masse until Zazlov/WBD got the ball rolling back in 2022.
