Also unless something surprisingly explodes in July or August, it feels pretty safe to say that Guardians has won the summer crown worldwide.

Mission impossible 7 just got a China release confirmed so it definitely could challenge GotG3.

Yeah MI7 is the only thing left in the summer slate that could overtake GoTG 3. Depends on how much it grows or just stays stable.

Barbie, MI7, and Aquaman 2 will make a billion imo

Barbie - multi-generational global appeal, iconic character, memes

MI7 - many decades of franchise good will, post TGM TC bump

Aquaman 2 - Aquaman made a billion, water movie = global appeal

600m for How Do You Live is crazy. I love Miyazaki's movies but they've never been big hits outside of Japan. Maybe China will show up and post a 9-fig dollar haul but the lack of advertising and clear distribution in western countries will hurt it, even if it's as good as Spirited Away.

Boogeyman with the best week to week hold in the top 10. -25%.

Excellent week to week holds for Little Mermaid and GOTG 3 too.

(My hot take: I can’t wait to see Barbie, it looks amazing. But I can’t see it getting to $300m worldwide, never mind $1bn)

Oh, i can definitely see it making 500M WW. With all those WW premieres, i think WB are treating the film as a blockbuster  and they know they have something special.

It'd be kind of depressing if Guardians wins the year WW with it not even hitting 850

Mario's winning the year WW though. Guardians would just win the summer WW.

-61% for Spidey is a much better drop than Wonder Woman's -67% on the exact same date from 2017.

I'm curious now if fewer schools were off in mid-June 2017 versus 2023 since Wonder Woman's second weekend was very strong while its weekdays have been losing to Spidey. I'd have thought both of them releasing on the same calendar day would make it a good apples to apples comparison but now I'm not sure.

It's possible, the increase of remote learning means inclement weather days aren't as big of a thing

I think WB do that a lot and rarely have an insane hit on their hands.

American comedies don’t often translate well overseas. I could see it performing like Bridesmaids, The Heat international. While they did really well, it’s not big enough for $400m+ worldwide.
