It hasn't happened before because no material based on a book has been split with both of them in 3D.

The December release is a big help. The new cameras is a plus. 3D is a huge addition. And of course the fanbase.

3D will it give a great boost overseas, but domestically it will be a burden.

This isn't Potter, where there is this huge dedicated fanbase, which is going to pay for 3D even if 3D is being forced on them. LOTR has many fans of course, but they're nowhere near as numerous (and crazy) as Potter fans. This isn't Transformers either, where 3D can actually be a draw.

Most 3D movies struggled in 2011 as audiences turned away from the format. I'm afraid the Hobbit can became yet another casualty (domestically that is).

such HORSESHIT! Doesn't have a huge dedicated fanbase? Tolkien has a ridiculous fanbase that probably equals HP's (and definitely outnumbers Twilight or Hunger Games) , they are just not as crazy and vocal as the Harry Potter fanbase. Also, not only is this actually being shot in 3D, but in 48 fps, which should give it an amazing cinematic presentation. This is a movie that people will probably choose to watch in 3D. sub 300M? Please give me what you are smoking. Such BS

Does TLAM have a chance to make any money OS? Most of these black urban movies have dome practically no business OS.

Who knows, but just wanted to add something: You guys do know that Think Like A Man is based off a best selling book by Steve Harvey? And that it was marketed like crazy, especially with comedian Kevin Hart? And that it was marketing was targeted to more than black people? *rolls eyes* Ignorance is bliss right? ;)
