Skyfall's a great blockbuster and I'll fight to the death with anyone who says otherwise, but I've a feeling unless this film is undeniably amazing the backlash to its predecessor (and there was/is a backlash) will come home to roost.

Not a steelbook. Just a regular edition with a slipcover. Paid 25€ for it, I bought it on the release date. Poor decision.

Casino Royale is my favorite Bond and one of my favorite action movies ever, but it feels more like Bourne with a touch of Bond than a Bond movie. Skyfall to its credit is able to reinvigorate and update all the Bond tropes and ideas to fit with a new, darker contemporary style. It FEELS like a fun old-school Bond movie, but constructed around modern filmmaking tropes to make the perfect Bond movie for this generation of movie goers- which is why it's such a big hit. And it's a technical master- Deakins and Mendes crush it. But it lacks the sense of energy and fun that defined CR, and it also needed a tighter script. Still, the backlash has gotten to the point where it seems like people suddenly think it's a shitty movie or something. It has flaws, but IMO it is quite the achievement, and alot more good than bad.

Technically, it's very well-made. All that gloss and finely honed sheen hides some really absurd story and character choices (even in a franchise that's pretty goofy to begin with).

Lea Seydoux can't walk the walk. She should just play the nice girl

instead getting into that femme fatale mode.

That movie definitely gets worse on repeat viewings. Not that I loved it the first time either, but after the first time I really had next to no use for it. Casino Royale is so many leagues above it.
