According to Oricon, Frozen's BD sales has broken the Japanese history only with one day !

The first day of Frozen is 660,000 and the Japanese history accumulation sales is around 465000.

So, from now on Frozen is creating a new record in Japanese BD sale.....

In-fucking-credible. Frozen revenues will fund Disney's movie slate for the next 4 years.

:o *says in Kristoff voice* Hang on, you mean to tell me that Frozen SHATTERED all DVD and Blu-Ray sales in Japan THAT DAY?!

If you take Frozen revenues from the BO and DVD/Blu-Ray it clearly crushes Spirit Away that's for sure.Frozen is on fire :D

At the moment, SA is still the sales leader on video in Japan. Frozen should get there, but it'll take a bit of time, I'd think. And a bit more to make up the difference in box office.

How do video sales in Japan work? Are they really frontloaded in the first weeks like in America, or do the sales have way better legs like how movies act like in theaters in Japan? Could we have another 16 week run at the top of the video sales chart? :o

Widest-Opening Day Releases - Toho Cinemas [# of showings since 2013]
608 - Monsters University (07/06/13)
600 - Memories of Marnie (07/19/14)
566 - The Wind Rises (07/20/13)
555 - Maleficent (07/05/14)
547 - Midsummer Equation (06/29/13)
522 - Frozen (03/15/14)

Marnie certainly has enough required showings to deliver at the box-office.  It's widest release this year at Toho Cinemas, and their widest since Monsters University.  Now we have to see if its non-fantasy story can produce a bit hit.  600 showings is very, very high without 3D or subtitled showings increasing the overall number.

As for the rest:

Toho Cinemas - Saturday # of Showings:
600 - Memories of Marnie (NEW)
486 (-21%) - Maleficent (Week 3)
327 - Pokemon XY: The Cocoon of Destruction & Diancie (NEW) *Franchise standard, 325-350*
271 - Kamen Rider Gaim the Movie: The Great Soccer Match! The Golden Fruit Cup (NEW) *Franchise standard, 250-275*
250 - Planes: Fire & Rescue (NEW) *Average*
228 (-27%) - Edge of Tomorrow (Week 3)
185 (-23%) - Say, "I Love You" (Week 2)
155 (-32%) - Frozen (Week 19)
131 (-35%) - Thirst (Week 4)
114 (-21%) - Mission Impossible: Samurai (Week 5)
110 (-51%) - Divergent (Week 2)
79 (-21%) - Anpanman: The Apple Boy and Everyone's Wishes (Week 3)
77 (-45%) - Transcendence (Week 4)
70 (-50%) - Noah (Week 6)
60 (-62%) - The Documentary of AKB48: The Time Has Come (Week 3)
59 (-48%) - Climbing to Spring (Week 7)
9 (-85%) - A Bolt from the Blue (Week 9)

Losing: Miss Granny (Week 2), The Grudge: The Beginning of the End (Week 4), The Round Table (Week 4), Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary (Week 5), The Grand Budapest Hotel (Week 5).
