01 (--) Stand By Me, Doraemon (Toho) DEBUT
02 (--) Transformers: Age of Extinction (Paramount) DEBUT
03 (01) Rurouni Kenshin: The Great Kyoto Fire Arc (Warner Bros.) Week 2
04 (03) Maleficent (Disney) Week 6
05 (02) Godzilla (Toho) Week 3
06 (04) Memories of Marnie (Toho) Week 4
07 (05) Pokemon XY: The Cocoon of Destruction & Diancie (Toho) Week 4
08 (--) Space Brothers 0 (Warner Bros.) DEBUT
09 (06) Kamen Rider Gaim the Movie: The Great Soccer Match! (Toei) Week 4
10 (07) Say, "I Love You" (Shochiku) Week 5

>Stand By Me, Doraemon narrowly misses having the biggest opening weekend of the year (though it did earn the biggest 3-day total), earning a massive ¥767,248,000 ($7.5 million) with 554,991 admissions on 319 screens.  This is the biggest debut in the Doraemon franchise, and the second-biggest opening weekend for the month of August.

After 3-days, Stand By Me, Doraemon collected a mighty ¥988,260,000 ($9.6 million), which is the biggest 3-day total since The Wind Rises last July.

Stand By Me, Doraemon should have little trouble reaching ¥5 billion ($50 million), and may be able to reach a total of ¥7 billion ($70 million), or higher.

>Transformers: Age of Extinction opened with ¥485,281,100 ($4.7 million) with 302,992 admissions on 760 screens.  This marks the lowest opening weekend in the Transformers franchise, but it's still pretty good.

¥631.4 million - Transformers (2007)
¥571.7 million - Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011)
¥562.6 million - Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009)
¥485.3 million - Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014)

After 3-days in release, Age of Extinction brought in a big ¥652,360,000 ($6.4 million) largely thanks to a huge 71% 3D share.  I'm not sure if 2D shares were few or what, didn't really pay attention over the weekend, but that's the highest 3D share since Gravity.

Transformers: Age of Extinction will be aiming for a ¥3-3.5 billion ($30-35 million) finish.

>Maleficent continues to hold on well in the face of major competition, earning ¥185,830,000 ($1.7 million) with 135,198 admissions.  After 6 weeks in release, Maleficent has grossed ¥5,227,340,000 ($51.2 million) with 3,970,262 admissions.  It's aiming for a total near ¥6.5 billion ($65 million).

>Space Brothers 0 saw a mediocre start of just ¥78,615,500 ($770,000) with 58,384 admissions on 210 screens.

It's indeed a running gag in the show. Nudity is just not as taboo in Japan compared to western countries, especially the US. Hell, Doraemon is absolutely nothing compared to Shin-chan which is aired right after it every friday evening on one of the major Japanese networks (one of the running gags in that show is Shin-chan showing his butt to everyone).

And they even have the 'other side' sometimes too :

http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mbcpbtoXZh1qgma1io1_500.gif

It was originally published as a seinen (basically in a magazine for mangas destined to an adult male audience) and was just made into an anime 20 years ago and it turned out to be hugely popular and now it's a classic for japanese audience and is watched by people of all ages and both genders.

So, does Frozen still have a chance of passing $250 million?

I know its extremely close right now.

250million....not sure, but 249 m seems to be no problem , which will surpass Spirited Away's US dollar boxoffice record.
