JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW

But the movies are nothing like the games. I would think they would reject the films

Judge Dredd was very successful in the UK. Tintin was very successful in Belgium. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was very successful in Sweden.

Source material is important for film lovers. It's the way it works.

And a lot of American films bombed in America.

$56.9 million is a more accurate final total in USD for RE4.In USD, RE5 will be around $45 million after this weekend.

That gross does seem a bit low, considering it was up to $42 million by Monday? I thought $46-46.5 million would have been its gross by this weekend. If it keeps on like this, it won't make more than Afterlife. Are there anymore special holidays where it could potentially make more?

Monday was a Holiday. And $46 million is barely more than $45 million - it could be there on Sunday.I doubt it makes more than Afterlife though. It definitely won't in yen or admissions, and will require the dollar to become even weaker to make an attempt at $57 million or more. I'm seeing about 4.2 billion ($53 million).

It looks like a good week for The Expendables 2 to open up. With disappointing 2nd week holdovers and no new action movie since September (The Bourne Legacy), Japan might welcome a big new action release. It doesn't appear to be opening up against anything major. The only hurdle is how much the predecessor made ($11m), which makes me think perhaps they won't take to this too much.

It's most likely still playing at some locations, but tracking isn't available anymore (usually when a film is no longer in wide release). From that point, most films see a 1-2% increase in their final total over their last tracking total at the end of the year. Any film that has a TE on the charts will see a this increase.

So can we hope for a 5 mill weekend for Expendables 2?

Definitely not, lol.Saturday Data has 'The Expendables 2' on track for 175-200 million yen ($2-2.5 million) for the weekend. A pretty good increase over the original, and it'll even be enough (despite possibly being the weakest film to top a weekend in 2012) to debut on top this weekend.
