The 53,000 admissions here should get it about 250,000 admissions and a debut between ¥300-325 million ($3-3.2 million), though, which is still solid and will get it to ¥1.5-2 billion ($15-20 million).>The Escape Plan saw a decent bump on Sunday and shouldn't have any problem exceeding 100,000 admissions for the weekend now, likely taking the 3-day total to ¥150-175 million ($1.4-1.7 million). If these numbers hold in the morning, it has an outside shot at reaching ¥1 billion ($9/10 million), though a total of ¥800-900 million ($7/8 million) is more likely.Everything except for Insidious: Chapter 2, Wake Up, Girls! and Magi Madoka Magica saw Sunday increases.

Sunday wasn't as strong as last week, but there were still some strong showings.

>The Eternal Zero is estimated to be at ¥5.1/¥5.2 billion ($50 million) now.

>Black Butler meets expectations for Warner Bros. and has a chance of being a ¥1 billion ($9/10 million) candidate.

>Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger vs. Go-Busters does practically the same numbers as last year's film. It also happened to be the second most-frontloaded wide-release last year, so let's see if it can improve on it's holds this year.

>Ender's Game disappoints as predicted. An unknown property featuring an unknown cast (Harrison Ford aside) targeting younger people didn't have any shot here.

This brings it's new cume to ¥5.15 billion ($49.7 million) with 4.19 million admissions after 30 days in release. It is barely dropping on a weekly basis.Weekly Breakdown:1st Weekend: ¥542 million ($5.3 million)2nd Weekend: ¥372 million ($3.6 million), -31%, ¥1.61 billion ($15.5 million)3rd Weekend: ¥532 million ($5.2 million), +43%, ¥3.20 billion ($30.9 million)4th Weekend: ¥468 million ($4.5 million), -12%, ¥4.16 billion ($40.2 million)5th Weekend: ¥401 million ($3.9 million), -14%, ¥5.15 billion ($49.7 million)>Black Butler opened on 327 screens to ¥145,573,100 ($1.4 million) and 116,253 admissions. Not a great start, but one that Warner Bros. should be fairly satisfied with about. I doubt it reaches the ¥1 billion milestone, but ¥800-900 million ($8/9 million) is acceptable and means they've succeeded in bringing out more than who buys manga volumes (around 400-500,000).>Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger vs. Go-Busters earned ¥133,991,700 ($1.3 million) and 133,243 admissions on 304 screens. The opening is down 2.1% compared to last year's film, but up 3.3% on the film before that.>Ender's Game barely makes the Top 10 in it's debut, taking in a measly ¥68,989,350 ($663,000) and 53,748 admissions on 474 screens. The pretty wide release shows Disney tried, but the film was never going to do anything in Japan. With the major failures of all these imported young adult book adaptations (Twilight, The Hunger Games, Beautiful Creatures, and now Ender's Game), I wonder if they'll eventually go the way of recent imported-animated films (aka not being picked up at all for distribution).

4th week: ¥960m (4.16b - 3.20b)

5th week: ¥990m (5.15b - 4.16b)

On Friday, the Daily Sports newspaper posted the first photograph from the Subaru Forester commercial created in collaboration with next year's live-action Attack on Titan film. The commercial will debut during this evening's Kinyōbi Road Show! (Friday Road Show!) movie airing.

Shinji Higuchi, the 48-year-old director of the live-action Attack on Titan film and The Floating Castle (Nobō no Shiro), also worked on the commercial. The commercial features three Titan giants, including one regular Titan and one female Titan played by stunt people and enhanced with computer graphics. It took four hours to apply the female Titan's makeup.

In addition, the commercial filmed a model of a colossal Titan's upper body. The model was about two meters (about six feet) tall and required seven people to operate.

In the commercial, a Forester sports utility vehicle "skillfully dodges" the attacking Titans. The 30-second commercial costs several tens of millions of yen (several hundred thousand U.S. dollars). NTV's morning television program Zip! aired a segment (pictured above) on the commercial.

Principal photography on the live-action film itself has yet to begin, and the staff has not decided if the Titans in the film will appear as they do in the commercial. Still, Higuchi was grateful for this "welcome opportunity" to create a preview of what is to come.
-ANN

The full commercial is going to air tonight. And as the last bit says, filming hasn't begun yet and is supposed to start this Summer with a release date in 2015.

Attack on Titan has become the biggest thing in Japanese pop culture over the past year with the manga selling almost 16 million copies in 2013 alone (and 30 million since it began in September of 2009), and the anime adaptation won several awards last year. The final episode even aired in theaters before airing on TV. Not to mention action-figures that recently sold for $1,150 selling out in less than 24 hours earlier this month.

The live-action film will be directed by Shinji Higuchi. He directed The Sinking of Japan and The Floating Castle, both notable hits in Japan. But more importantly, he has worked on storyboards and visual effects for Godzilla, Evangelion and Gamera, so he certainly knows how to portray humanity and giants on screen together.

Handling the script is Yusuke Watanabe (Gantz, Dragonball Z, 20th Century Boys) and Tomohiro Machiyama (personal friend of the Attack on Titan creator).

Attack on Titan Plot/Introduction (slight spoiler included):

Several hundred years ago, humans were nearly exterminated by Titans. Titans are typically several stories tall, seem to have no intelligence, devour human beings and, worst of all, seem to do it for the pleasure rather than as a food source. A small percentage of humanity survived by walling themselves in a city protected by extremely high walls, even taller than the biggest Titans. Flash forward to the present and the city has not seen a Titan in over 100 years. Teenage boy Eren and his foster sister Mikasa witness something horrific as the city walls are destroyed by a Colossal Titan that appears out of thin air. As the smaller Titans flood the city, the two kids watch in horror as their mother is eaten alive. Eren vows that he will murder every single Titan and take revenge for all of mankind. Nominated for the 4th Manga Taisho Awards (2011) and won the Kodansha Manga Award shōnen category (2011). In English, the series is roughly translated to 'Attack on Titan'.

Weekend Estimates [01/25-26]

01 (01) ¥360 million ($3.5 million), -10%, The Eternal Zero (Toho) Week 6
02 (02) ¥159 million ($1.5 million), -29%, Trick: The Last Stage (Toho) Week 3
03 (--) ¥114 million ($1.1 million), 0, The Little House (Shochiku) DEBUT
04 (03) ¥80 million ($780,000), -45%, Black Butler (Warner Bros.) Week 2
05 (04) ¥79 million ($770,000), -41%, Zyuten Sentai Kyoryuger vs. Go-Busters: The Great Dinosaur Battle! (Toei) Week 2
06 (05) ¥78 million ($760,000), -19%, Gravity (Warner Bros.) Week 7
07 (07) ¥54 million ($520,000), -28%, Judge! (Shochiku) Week 3
08 (08) ¥48 million ($460,000), -31%, Lupin III Vs. Detective Conan (Toho) Week 8
09 (06) ¥46 million ($440,000), -41%, The Escape Plan (Gaga) Week 3
10 (--) ¥44 million ($420,000), 0, Genome Hazard (Asmik Ace) DEBUT
11 (10) ¥38 million ($360,000), -32%, The Liar and His Lover (Toho) Week 7
12 (09) ¥29 million ($270,000), -59%, Ender's Game (Disney) Week 2

>The Eternal Zero once again pulls off an incredible weekend, and estimates have actually been lower than actuals for it, so it may see a sub-10% drop. It should be very, very close to ¥6 billion ($58 million) now if it hasn't exceeded the mark. ¥8 billion ($75-80 million) is looking very likely, and ¥9 billion ($85-90 million) will enter the equation soon at this rate.

>The Little House is a bit disappointing after the solid success of Yamada's last film, Tokyo Family last year. Legs, however, will be excellent and these films always make more than 60% of their gross from the weekdays, too. ¥1 billion ($9/10 million) is a stretch, but doable.

>THE IDOLM@STER MOVIE isn't wide enough to gather an estimate for, but it's surely in the Top 5 at the very least. It will probably come in at #3.

01 (01) ¥295 million ($2.9 million), The Eternal Zero (Toho) Week 7
02 (--) ¥270 million ($2.6 million), I Want to Hold You (Toho) NEW
03 (--) ¥250 million ($2.4 million), The Wolf of Wall Street (Paramount) NEW
04 (--) ¥180 million ($1.7 million), Thor: The Dark World (Disney) NEW
05 (--) ¥160 million ($1.5 million), American Hustle (Phantom Film) NEW

06 (02) ¥105 million ($1.0 million), Trick: The Last Stage (Toho) Week 4
07 (04) ¥90 million ($880,000), The Little House (Shochiku) Week 2
08 (03) ¥75 million ($730,000), THE IDOLM@STER MOVIE (Aniplex) Week 2
09 (06) ¥60 million ($580,000), Gravity (Warner Bros.) Week 8
10 (05) ¥55 million ($530,000), Black Butler (Warner Bros.) Week 3

This is a discount weekend (1st of the month), meaning tickets are 40% off at all major cinema chains today (Sat.) and these days continue to grow in popularity with many films having sell outs, some for the entire day and the first showings for today haven't even started yet.

The top spot will probably be held once again by The Eternal Zero, give it its 7th-consecutive week in first place, but it finally has strong competition:

I Want To Hold You (311 tc) and Wolf of Wall Street (254 tc) are both doing very well, but the former was given the larger screens at the majority of locations likely giving it the edge as best opener this weekend. Thor: The Dark World (321 tc) should do better than the first film. American Hustle (119 tc) also looks good this morning, but the low theater count will prevent it from having a chance at the top.

In addition to the openers above, there is Bilocation (98 tc) and Little Friends (100 tc). I don't see any real momentum for them, however, so I doubt they'll make the Top 10.

Rush, opening next week, also has a number of previews this weekend and is doing really, really well. There may be some potential for it to become a success. Ron Howard's film have done very well in the past, too.
