JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW

Recommended Posts

2100*1 173171 アナと雪の女王*2 *49587 X-MEN:フューチャー&パストIt really slowed down. 230 will be 59% of the day. I was hoping for 55% and above 8.6m but....its going to be 8.4- 8.5 and that ain't bad. If Aeon out performed Toho then maybe.

May be disney is obligated to release. They might have got advance from retailers for dvd and have to abide by the contract. But looking at sales numbers in japan, even if it beats SA(which should happen) it might only sell like 2.5M dvd/blu ray. At even $15-20 profit per piece it aint that much. May be rental business will be huge.

Disney should return that money and extend Frozen's theater run for as long as possible. I'm sure theaters would love showing Frozen for several more months with how much they have been making these last few weeks! :D

Assuming it drops back to 13m next week or lets say 12.5m. With these holds since week 5 its possible it averages 11m per week for 6weeks until the boondoggle. 275m. 300m mite be in reach. If it does have a 9m week just before the dvd and with summer midweeks doubling, 13m the following week would have been expected and 400m total likely. It'll be the biggest box office blunder in history. 120m in lost revenue and a story of the most incredible run in history. Waves of WoM holding the weekly admission percentage decline better than jaws et star wars mbfgw and SA . Disney will also lose the magic of a long run where people nostalgicly talk about it down the road. "Remember when Frozen was in the theater forever when you were a girl back in '14? How many times did i take you? 4? Was the last time new years? It was in the news everyday for a year I think. It was an amazing magical time. Everyone in the country saw it and I felt it brought us closer."Thats how it was for me with lines around the block for jaws for months. My dad took me 3 times. The long box office run, in the news all the time, standing in line w my dad. It wasn't just the movie, it was everything that went with it. Time with a parent, long conversations about the movie, quoting the shit out of it. When measuring something " I say its 20 feet. Nay 25!" The quote comes into play for laughs. When taking a photo " smile you son of a bi"you dont say bitch because the gun shot rang.and you couldnt hear the rest of the word. When going fishing. Dad. "We need a bigger boat" Its also the shared resonance and collective memory of the masses of a YEAR that once once was. We were all scared to go in the water after that, even fresh water. Lol. Together the population faced one of our biggest fears. With Frozen its about sibling love and letting go. Im sure itll be referenced for years the come. A long box office run helps deepen the feeling and sets it like concrete in the memory.Dont let disney cut the love short. Write the son of bi. .. we need a bigger run. In 2034 "Was it 30b yen? Nay 40 and Still number 1I wrote something mostly financial. Someone write disney something along the lines of sentimentality as above if it comes to you.

Obligate shmobligate.disney is a 100b company and and owner of the IP, they can delay if they want. Wouldnt cost them more than a million to offer refunds on ads and discounts to purchacers. 1/50th of what they'll lose.174,617 is final number. I was hoping for 175 at the start of the day for the high end. Not bad Edited by T E Lawrence

I bet there are serious discussions at Disney going on right now about delaying the Japan dvd release. Unlike in the US, dvd sales in Japan is very small, also I bet merchandise/toy sales is much much lower in Japan.

Wow Frozen!! It even increased more than I expected. I can't believe it's likely gonna be back to 8m weekend again. :D

Not so sure about that. I mean yes, if you compare them in numbers, merchandise sales in Japan of course will be lower compared to US because the population is smaller. But, you should know that Japanese love Disney. They have Disneyland and DisneySea after all, which are the world's 3rd and 4th most visited theme park with 12 and 14 million visitors every year. So I imagine the merchandise/toys sales in Japan are relatively big as well.

I heard that Stitch is HUGE in Japan, which is really weird since Lilo and Stitch came out like 12 years ago. They even made an anime about him recently.

And this from Corpse:

Weekend Estimates [05/31-06/01]01 (01) ¥812 million ($8.0 million), +16%, ¥21.30 billion ($208.7 million), Frozen (Disney) Week 1202 (--) ¥318 million ($3.1 million), 0, ¥390 million ($3.8 million), X-Men: Days of Future Past (Fox) DEBUT03 (--) ¥199 million ($1.9 million), 0, ¥235 million ($2.3 million), Monsterz (Warner Bros.) DEBUT04 (--) ¥187 million ($1.8 million), 0, All-Around Appraiser Q: Mona Lisa's Eye (Toho) DEBUT05 (02) ¥155 million ($1.5 million), -14%, ¥505 million ($5.0 million), A Bolt from the Blue (Toho) Week 206 (03) ¥135 million ($1.3 million), -09%, ¥4.10 billion ($40.2 million), Thermae Romae II (Toho) Week 607 (04) ¥73 million ($720,000), -28%, ¥2.97 billion ($29.1 million), The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (Sony) Week 608 (06) ¥51 million ($500,000), -37%, ¥525 million ($5.1 million), Ushijima the Loan Shark 2 (Toho) Week 309 (05) ¥50 million ($490,000), -41%, ¥3.92 billion ($38.4 million), Detective Conan: The Sniper from Another Dimension (Toho) Week 710 (08) ¥46 million ($450,000), -17%, ¥1.68 billion ($16.4 million), Crayon Shin-chan: Serious Battle! Robot Dad Strikes (Toho) Week 711 (07) ¥43 million ($420,000), -34%, ¥390 million ($3.8 million), Mobile Suit Gundam UC: Episode 7 - Over the Rainbow (Shochiku) Week 312 (09) ¥37 million ($360,000), -30%, ¥530 million ($5.2 million), Wood Job! (Toho) Week 413 (10) ¥31 million ($300,000), -39%, ¥2.01 billion ($19.7 million), Partners the Movie 3 (Toei) Week 6Note: This was a discount weekend (1st of the month) which can skew the estimates quite a bit. So these are rough estimates rather than estimate estimates.>Frozen continues to be so uncanny and marvelous. To still be posting weekend numbers over ¥700/800 million ($7/8 million) is so unprecedented. Its 12th weekend estimates here is pretty much double the old 12th weekend record held by Spirited Away. Ever since its 7th weekend, it's been breaking the weekend record by considerable amounts. Anyway, Frozen definitely exceeded ¥21 billion ($205 million) over the weekend, and should be closer to ¥21.3 billion ($209 million) now. It's also likely to be over 16.7 million admissions now, so it's about 100-150,000 away (400-450,000 if you count the 3D re-release) from overtaking Titanic as the most-attended imported film of all-time. Given it's unprecedented run, it's not really possible to give a projected total, but it's certainly giving it's all to reach ¥30 billion ($300 million) and thusSpirited Away. At the very least, ¥27/28 billion ($270/280 million) is likely. And non-Frozen related...>X-Men: Days of Future Past debuted very, very well. It did open on a discount weekend, though, and films that open on these weekends end up pretty frontloaded. The film should be able to come near ¥1.5 billion ($15 million), however, putting it range of X-3's ¥1.53 billion total. This is far better than it was expected to earn. It's still very unlikely to exceed the totals for X-Men (¥1.85 billion) or X2 (¥1.80 billion), but quite impressive nonetheless as it'll almost double the totals of the Wolverine films and X-Men: First Class>Good showing for Monsterz. Few were expecting it to beat All-Around Appraiser Q: Mona Lisa's Eye, and based on estimates, it did just that with about a ¥200 million ($2 million) debut. Very nice.

There are 30000 views on this post per week. I imagine thats at least 1000 peopleIf disney gets 1000 emails itll raise a flag. it can be short and sweet. First name, country and state that you blog, are an investor or a big disney fan.Various short email subjects10s of millions financial lossNostalgic runLike watching the excitement in japan in the media. It makes the movie feel more special to youYour love for this movie is strengthened know another people are so in love with it.You feel connected with others hearing how so many keep going to the theater in japanPeople coming together will be lost. We need more of that in the world.Going to bomb disney world if they release dvd. Just kidding, but a few angry emails would be good to mix it up.The magic of disney is getting cut short here.A thousand blades of grass and you have movement. Write them so Omni can eat and have a proper movement of his own and Quigley doesn't go postal.5 freaking minutes.http://thewaltdisney...-communications

Another interesting thing to note, Frozen's 12th weekend in Japan beat domestic by 1.2M. Legs in Japan has been out of this world, it feels like 1980's with ET, it keeps going and going.  :D
