Yeah, they are really. Like worst results vs FFH of any territory except SK, right? Expectations didn’t come from thin air.

They were coming from thin air.

 

Without added factor of XMAS, no market is really close to EG. On top of that EG actually had holiday advantage in Japan, so 70% of EG will be fair enough.

If it has your legs, this is going to be like a bottom 2 market for growth from FFH. More than can be blamed on Xmas difference. You can’t talk around that.

Its not just NWH not having XMAS difference, but AEG had holidays advantage.

 

Say if normal level of NWH was 50 and AEG 100.

 

You have it 80 vs 100 in most markets due to XMAS-New Year.

 

in Japan it is

50 vs 120. 

 

so reaching 70% of EG is fair enough.

If you look at just vs EG, maybe it is reasonable, sure. If you look at results vs EG, IW, SMH, FFH, SM1 is going to be pretty bottom of barrel stuff. Spider-man popularity vs Avengers popularity is basically higher in Japan than anywhere, so comparing to avengers only is misleading!

I mean Avengers in USA would have less jumps than say a Captain America movies did, because the base is already high.

Though, things are different from FFH's run as:

 

FFH never opened to 1st Position, even when it was Aladdin's 3rd Week.

FFH's 3rd Weekend - TS4 and Pikachu opened.

FFH's 4th Weekend - Weathering With You opened.

FFH's 5th Weekend - Fast and Furious H&S opened.

So far, there isn't any major Hollywood release until February (Ghostbusters Afterlife : 4 Feb) that can affect its run.

I will check the theatre counts for above mentioned films, before midnight. But, True Competitive are in Feb (Honourable mentions : Deer King). If NWH can cope with JJK or run in parallel then it should not be a problem

One Major release meaning wide while other's are limited or mini screen,

 

It's a weak non-holiday period. I do not see any major works coming up in January, Majority are scheduled for Feb same goes to Hollywood works. Although, some works has not announced their counts on distribution. TOHO next work "Deer King" is scheduled for February. I think we all are overthinking. If WOM of NWH isn't affected than we will be comparably above ¥5B. NWH can take advantage of weak competitive period. Although, there are some exception if JJK go for 4D expansion. or New giveaway is announced. But for me ¥4B is a locked figure now.

Don't forget however that Japan is one of the countries where FFH had its best result (same for South Korea), 

it doesn't happen very often that a superhero movie grosses more in Japan than in France and Brazil

 

And even more surprisingly, Japan is also one of the few markets where Far From Home has grossed more than Civil War and Iron Man 3

I swear it made me laugh more than all the comedies released in 2021 😂

C.E.R is so bad at present that Jujutsu Kaisen Movie need ¥5.1B to break Demon Slayer Mugen Train OW record in USD. I just gave up conversion from yen to usd. It's just more than annoying

There's no need to convert the gross of local films in USD. Local currency is what matters, especially for local films until you have to compare gross of different industries.
