Gods of Egypt | Feb 26, 2016 | IMAX release confirmed

Recommended Posts

Lionsgate said today that Gods Of Egypt has snagged a 60-second spot to air during Sunday’s Super Bowl pregame show. That makes sense for the Summit pic, which stars Brenton Thwaites, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Gerard Butler, Rufus Sewell and Geoffrey Rush — it opens February 26. The Alex Proyas-helmed swords-and-sandals actioner centers on a mortal (Thwaites) on a mission to save the world, enlisting the god Horus (Coster-Waldau) in an alliance against god of darkness Set (Butler). Check out the most recent trailer here.

The studio and director have come under fire for some of the casting in the pic, which was conspicuously non-diverse. It prompted rare statements of apology from Lionsgate and Proyas.

CBS said Super Bowl ads are going for a record $5 million per 30-second spot. Co-
chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Patrick Waschsberger said during the company’s earnings call today that the movie “looks great,” and “we are expecting a very solid performance.” Lionsgate brass shot down rumors of the studio’s high exposure on the film, saying risk capital was under $10M.

20th Century Fox, Universal, Paramount and Disney are also advertising in the game.

On Thursday, Lionsgate’s stock dipped in postmarket trading after reporting fiscal Q3 earnings that fell short of Wall Street’s expectations. Part of the problem: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2′s $650 million global box office was down from Mockingjay 1, despite costing more to produce.

They should have cut their losses with this, Allegiant is going to make more money.

But it's a tougher sell to the predominantly male SB audience......they've given up on marketing this to them. Look at the social media reactions to last year's Insurgent trailer.
