I can assume it has had a hard competition, but even with that, given that Japan is probably the country with better legs in the world, its gross should have been considerably better. What will be the drop in admissions from FOTR, maybe 70? 80%? That is insane.

Maybe 3D is the problem as Corpse said, given Japanese movies gave up 3D in 2012 and suddenly their performance jumped! Japanese probably hates 3D.

Shockingly low box office revenue can always be attributed to "no screen support by local distributor"

Maybe the marketing is too pushy. East Asian customers don't like to be pushed around to spend on the new and shiny.

Estimating $60mil from OS and $18mil from DOM this weekend = $840mil WWA little bit short of $850mil.
