hmmm another new thread.... :PDumbo is one of the greatest Animated movies ever from emotional highs and lows (Baby Mine) to the Pink Elephants on parade its a movie triumph - amazing to be me that the film still lost so much money for Disney at the time of its release.A

Loved it as a kid and still find it very nice.

Dumbo was, together with Pinocchio, the beginning of Disney's more graphic style animation; after Snow White, Fantasia and Bambi with their more painting-like animations. btw, Dumbo is also the movie that saved Disney, because they were far too ambitious after the financial success of Snow White; neither Bambi nor Fantasia (especially Fantasia, budget was completely out of control) nor Pinocchio were able to cover the expenses and Disney was very near to bankruptcy. Dumbo got produced in a much cheaper way and so helped save the Mouse House.

It doesn't get much better than this.

What an unadulterated showcase of creativity this is.  I wouldn't argue if one made the statement that the proceedings on display here are simply creative as fuck.  What makes the film so damn special is how it uses that creativity to fuel the story.  Creativity is one thing, but creative with direction (creative storytelling) is something entirely on its own.

Of course at the core of the film is the relationship between a son and his mom.  The story is able to co-mingle the unabashed youth with the unconditional love of a mom.  To say it has an effect on you as a viewer would be an understatement.  This is in fact the relationship that the film lays its hay on.  We are shown a loving relationship between a mom and son before they are separated.

The majority of the film acts as a coming of age story of sorts as Dumbo learns to live on his own and come to terms with his abnormal body parts.  There are some damn good scenes on display that touch on the dark sides of culture and acceptance.  The other elephants in particular are simply ruthless in their treatment of poor Dumbo.  One cannot help but think of problems that exist to this very day that are exactly like what is portrayed here.

There are two scenes here that accurately represent what this film is all about.  One is the scene in which Dumbo's mom consoles Dumbo through the bars while in chains.  This in my opinion is an all-time scene in cinema and signifies the depth the film conveys.  The other scene is one in which Dumbo and the mouse get drunk together.  One of the more fun scenes you'll come across in any animated film.

These two scenes show how the film is so damn good at having depth and creative fun.  The two together synergize to create nothing less than a magical experience.  In the end the film makes you believe in and care for an elephant that can fly.  What more can one say about the power of cinema than that statement?

Not only an animated classic, but a classic of cinema in general.

Your best review yet. IMO. Not that I'm biased or anything.

Such a movie story about a relationship between son and mother. Tragically separated since Dumbo was a baby. Dumbo's mom was trying to protect dumbo from the abuse he was receiving from the human trainers.  The film shows how Dumbo was able to use what made him different and show the audience just because someone is different does not make anything less. Dumbo was treated horrible and rejected by other elephants. This is a second element of the film is  acceptance in society. Dumbo wants to be accepted by his peers. The only friend he has is a mouse.  Dumbo's friend helps dumbo realize his full potential. With Dumbo's friend and Dumbo soars to new heights and  finally is renewed his mother.
