Yes, but I find it stupid to force people to be vaccinated to go to the movies or elsewhere. It's as if we deprived people of freedom, they will no longer be able to do what they want, we force them to be vaccinated while I'm sure that many people do not want to be vaccinated and will be forced to do so because of of these measures. Also cases remain very low in France and deaths and hospital admissions in intensive care continue to drop, so I really don't know why Macron decided to do this now.

I expected a little more in view of the revenues announced by Disney in France, but it's good it does not matter 700k admissions crossed in the first weekend and BW already achieves the best start of 2021 ahead of Conjuring 3 (665k admissions) and the 2nd best postcovid start behind Tenet in August 2020 (809k admissions). In the end it should reach something around 1.5M-2M admissions like Ant man 2 which had started a little higher and which had finished at 1.85M admissions

here are the new forecasts of the week from Cine-directors

Finally, I have to share some very bad news. President Macron announced in a speech this evening that to go to the cinema and other public places it will now be necessary to have a vaccination passport, that is to say that it will be necessary to be fully vaccinated to go to the cinema. In France, only 35% of the population is fully vaccinated which means that there will be a lot less admissions and income to the cinema in France, but when I say a lot less, I'm not kidding, it will be awful and there will be considerable drops in attendance. BW and others films will have shitty legs and the big French movie Kaamelott which was due out on July 21 and which could easily have achieved 2 million admissions in OW and 5 million admissions in the end may not even make 1/3 of that. I am very disappointed and saddened by these new measures.

https://deadline.com/2021/07/french-cinemas-to-require-health-pass-from-july-21-cannes-1234790773/

The health pass certifies that people are either fully vaccinated or have recently tested negative for Covid.

so a negative test is sufficient too

It's huge, best start since The Lion King in July 2019 and better start of the franchise. I feel like people are rushing to the movies this week touting the health pass requirement to access theaters next week. So sure it's a huge start for the first day and the first week will be big too but expect big big falls next week (maybe something in the -70%)

Too bad for Kaamelott that the health pass arrives at the same time, I think that many reservations will have to be canceled because of unvaccinated people. And the admissions of his 1st weekend and his 1st week will be significantly below those that should have been. Let's hope for good numbers anyway.

THU of F9 seems like will be lower than what BW had last week. May be BW win full run.

No I don't think so, F9 should be around 700k admissions over the first 3 days without the biggest days of Saturday and Sunday. And by the end of his first week it will have almost caught up with BW who will have already been in theaters for 2 whole weeks. Then it is a question of legs for who will finish first and with the health pass from July 21, admissions will drop for all films and no film will have legs. Fast and Furious 9 will therefore have the advantage of having had a much better first week than BW.

Honestly me too, it may be thanks to the Cannes Film Festival or because of the effect of the health pass that begins on Wednesday, people are rushing to the cinemas before they can no longer go.

Well not exactly 3 days. Include big 118K previews and WED was National holiday. THU and FRI aren't that ahead Black Widow.

Estimated daily numbers for Widow from Paris. Only opening day WED are actuals, rest all estimates.

Yeah and despite big previews and national holiday Wednesday, F9 appears to be bigger than BW on Thursday and Friday, and it will still be on Saturday and Sunday. Then everything will collapse after next Wednesday.

206 000 admissions in previews for Kaamelott yesterday. It sold 36,600 tickets in pre-sales at Pathé-Gaumont, which would be exceptional if it plays like a French film (3x previous record), but kinda lackluster if compared to American fan driven franchises...

Meh 9am all around (first day of Pass Sanitaire). Kaamelott holds a 4,4/5 audience score on Allocine but only hardcore fans have seen it so far.

Some theaters (mostly arthouse and independant) are limiting their screen capacity to 50 seats per show so that the Pass Sanitaire isn't applied.

Cataclysmic week because of the health pass. Kaamelott sold 310 000 admissions in one evening of previews...but then only 116k on its official OD (the first day of pass sanitaire). Its 1M OWeek is still fine and ensures a sequel will happen. 4.1/5 audience score on Allociné.

Titane is the only good hold this week thanks to the Palme d'or boost (in a normal week, it would've had an increase). Onoda's score isn't good, despite rave reviews (4.4/5 critics score). Overall the week was down 42%, despite Kaamelott's opening. Multiplexes were down 60% while small (less than 5 screens) theaters were only down 30%.

28/07/21 ODs

1. The Suicide Squad - 45 224 admissions (561 screens)

2. Jungle Cruise - 43 384 (538)

3. Spirit - 31 308 (inc. 11 029) (454)

4. Just 6.5 - 6 114 (including 1051 previews) (128)

TSS (3.7 audience score) and JC (3.4) will fight for second place (Kaamelott will probably win the week) with around 300k each. JC's score is actually decent. It had the same OD as Cruella a few weeks ago (excluding previews).
