Rsyu
Christmas day is always massive for the theatres and this year was no exception. Ode to my father saw a solid rise and is showing great word of mouth. 5 million admissions will happen easily. The Battle of the five armies moved ahead into 3rd place again and is pretty much locked to become the highest grossing/attended film of the hobbit series. My love don't cross that river crossed 3 million admissions to become the most attended documentary film ahead of Old Partner. It should beat Begin again's score of 3.43M admissions to become the most successful arthouse film before the end of the week.

Rsyu
With 3 more days of 2014 left the years total admissions stands at 212,372,440. 2013 admissions was 213,348,254 so 2014 needs 975,814 admissions more to record the biggest year on record. It's safe to say that this will happen.

Tower
Every year I say South Korea probably reached its peak and will decrease in admissions and every year I'm wrong, how far can this market go? You can use demographic and economic data to predict that the market will eventually drop off. But that is a long term prediction, it won't work nearly as well for year to year predictions. This is especially true since the population is still growing, something that should change eventually considering the birth rates.
Rsyu
Every year I say South Korea probably reached its peak and will decrease in admissions and every year I'm wrong, how far can this market go? While admissions have stayed relatively flat, it's interesting that gross has increased more noticeably from the previous year. This year the total revenue from all films stands at 1.645 trillion won compared to 1.551 trillion won from 2013. That's a 6% increase which is nothing to be sneezed at. Basically this means that the overall hike in the average ticket prices has driven gross growth this year. Ticket prices break down like this: 2013 average ticket price local films: 7,149 won foreign films: 7,452 won 2014 average ticket price local films: 7,627 won foreign films: 7,862 won I don't think admissions will fluctuate all that much going forward. The network of theatre chains are pretty well established nationwide and unless something changes drastically in the socio-cultural landscape the behaviour pattern of movie goers isn't likely to change all that much. There will be strong years and weak years and differences based on that but no major fluctuations. Any future gross growth is more likely to come from inflation of ticket prices which is very likely to happen. I can see SK being like France : a strong market but a relatively stagnant one over the long term, SK is a pretty mature market now after all, and even stagnation would be fine because SK is already huge for a market with just 50 million people.
