At one point, this was easily the best superhero movie around. Christopher Reeve was the perfect choice and Gene Hackman is..well he's Gene Hackman, what else needs to be said about him?

Great effects for the time and it was just a great, fun movie to watch as a kid.

Watched this one a lot as a kid as well - loved it then and it still has a warm place in my heart even though I prefer other "heroes" over Him. Great film, great performances and just well madeB+

The weak villains and lackluster external plot haven't aged well, even though the origin and casting of the protagonist is still iconic.

With a character like Superman on board, a film has to go slightly over-the-top because you can't ground it in reality. Still, the villain(s) are too ridiculous for my taste. The ending is plain cop-out and leaves us scratching our heads (why doesn't he do that every time a problem comes up?!)

Apart from those problems, it was great seeing a man fly, the story was entertaining enough and there were some nice sets and effects.

Saving Lois and the helicopter was always a favorite scene.

A really good film but imo it is not as good as the sequel.

Just watched it for the first time, it's ultra campy (Adam West campy) and the only good thing about it was its score and the Reeve and Kidder chemistry , both actors were very charismatic. MOS is a freaking masterpiece next to this.  35/100

the strangest thing is that I loved Superman Returns, which pays tribute to this movie.

and this Superman is supposed to be the best one

This is still the best Superman movie around, I guess I'm in the minority that likes this better than Superman 2.
