I'd like to see proof that most tentpoles have 150 mill marketing budgets. Where are you guys getting these figures from?

I dont have links but i have seen in many articles over time.Nikki has said it many times too

how the heck do you spend 430M on a moviejfc hollywood

Not the first time.Golden "rule":If you take the TOTAL budget(in this case 430mill) and multiply with 1,75 it will go in black if it reaches that in theaters1,75 - 1,5 is uncertain but nothing to worry about and everything under that is surely a moneylooserThis should be used as a guide and not as a certainty because of the many ways a movie budget can come together Edited by fmpro

:);)

Right now the average Hollywood studio’s marketing spend on a blockbuster is $70+M domestic and at least that for international. Some studios have been known to spend $200+M globally like when Sony Pictures introduced its new Bond, Daniel Craig.

Even if the marketing budget was high, this looks totally commonplace for all big budget filmsAlso based on what people are saying. Thor, Captain America, Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Star Trek, First Class, Batman Begins snd many other hit movies were all actually all theatrical failure it seems

I sure find it fascinating that as the gross for TASM grows, so does the budget. :rolleyes:C'mon guys, these are really pointless debates because we will never know the true amount a studio actually invests into a film. Need I remind anyone that Paramount "lost money" on Forrest Gump and Superman Returns just needed 200m DOM to break even? Studios will make up anything to suit their agendas.Unless a movie quadruples or makes only half of its budget or less, it really is hard to say just how successful or unsuccessful it is. It's sort of ridiculous to say that if TASM passes ST09 and becomes the highest grossing reboot ever that it's still a "failure". Regardless of budget, inflation and 3D upcharges, 260,000,000 is still a lot of coin...even these days.If it gets past 251m, TASM will be the 4th highest DOM grossing Sony film ever(Take a wild guess what the top three are).

The link above brings up an interesting particularity which we'll have to investigate perhaps in another thread - the distinction between advertising campaigns and merchandising campaigns. How much of the Cars franchise's vaunted merchandising revenue streams is really part of its Advertising/Marketing budget? Is there a fundamental distinction?

Your link http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118056007.html?cmpid=RSS%7CNews%7CLatestNews argues the opposite.

SM4 got $200 million of advertising the studios won't have to pay due to product placement and other partnerships.

Altogether, around 400 promo partners worldwide have ponied up an estimated $200 million in marketing support for the film.

They also report the budget is 220 mill and maybe Sony only brought up another 100 mill for tv adds and printing...

This is a cash cow for Sony

Late in this weekend battle:Meh! for IA4. 50M should have been done!Oh! for TASM. Under 50% drop? This thing is holding very well. Final test, next weekend.Oh! for Ted. Is Whalberg some kind of a newgod in Hollywood now?
