The biggest January action film was Taken but I agree, a January release date isn't a good sign, I thought October or February would be more likely months for the film considering it's creative team and cast.

And the biggest action films in February?

 

PLATOON (1987) 138.5 M (technically, it's a war film)

SAFE HOUSE (2012) 126.4 M

 

I don't see January and February being 'very different' from each other.

 

October's biggest action film is TAKEN ll with 139.9 M, not different either.

Lone Survivor was a hit because of the marketing campaign and the GA. Nothing to do with a limited release going wide, but, if you guys are going that route, there you have, two more strong hits: Green Hornet and The Book of Eli.

Strong hits? Those movies weren't especially profitable despite decent opening weekend.

 

Not saying it isn't possible for Man From U.N.C.L.E. to be a hit in January, its just alarming when a movie scheduled around Christmas time is bumped to January.
