The Toymaker
How many good movies we have that didnt make an impact at BO, but are liked by a lot of people? So manyTons
Jack Nevada
I love movies too, but when in a box office forum, expect the 'money matters more' point of view. WTF were not that cynical here! We're people who love movies, the money aspect comes second.
TylerDurden365
Of course, just focusing on the pure numbers ignores things like budget, home market, etc. etc. Perks is a fine success for the type of movie it is and the release pattern that it received. At least it is imo, I may be incorrect. In other thoughts, can this opening mean we're done with Paranormal Activity movies? Please?

There are other forums, like SPEAKEASY and RTM where the love of movies can be seen.

Noctis
Years from now, barely anyone is going to remember Expendables 2 while Perks will be far more watched and loved.

The Toymaker
Years from now, barely anyone is going to remember Expendables 2 while Perks will be far more watched and loved. I wouldn't be too sure about that. There are tons of examples of critically loved movies that are forgotten yet popcorn movies that are loved even if as a guilty pleasure. TE2 is a once in a lifetime movie showcasing the biggest action draws ever in one film. Perks is just another coming of age story. Many of those have come and gone.
Gopher
As I expected, Alex Cross alienated both action/thriller fans and Tyler Perry's fanbase. It's too bad they chose Perry for the role as opposed to Idris Elba.PA4 is down 40%+ from PA3's OD so this will be spun as a disappointment for sure. C Cinemascore means it may not reach 60m. Fantastic for the holdovers. Argo could be down under 10%. Word of mouth is spreading like wildfire.... nobody dislikes this movie. It'll be a tight race next weekend between PA4, Argo and Cloud Atlas.

forg
Alex Cross could have done Lincoln Lawyer numbers if the casting was right
The Toymaker
Years from now, barely anyone is going to remember Expendables 2 while Perks will be far more watched and loved. Furthermore, what makes you think people will watch Perks in the future if they are not watching it in cinemas now? You are basically making a case for it having gone straight to DVD rather than cinema. Nobody cares about Perks. 10m people cared about TE2 enough to see it. Noctis
Box office success in no way determines a film's longevity.Expendables 2 will gross more than Frankenweenie and Perks, but they will rip it to shreds in the future when it comes to recognition and reception. Ezen Baklattan
I didn't. Therefore it's untrue. No, you don't get it. He wanted it to be a secret surprise, so he refused to make any news about it, and the name wasn't listed in the credits.
ddddeeee
Years from now, barely anyone is going to remember Expendables 2 while Perks will be far more watched and loved. That's not really fair. Years from now a huge chunk of the cast won't even remember Expendables 2, considering they'll be senile. And those who aren't won't want to remember that mess.
