In terms of ROI from box office, it could be the highest ever in world cinema history (at least it is in China). (nearly 20x returns) plenty of Indian films in that range. A 1975 Jai Santoshi Maa, budget was ₹0.5mn ($66k) Gross ₹100mn ($13.5mn) out of which Distributor would have got ₹25mn ($3.3mn). So around 50x ROI. That was a marketing push by the distributor, the cut shown at Sundance was a pretty cheap movie (20-25K), but we never saw that one. It was sold at Sundance at 1.1M and work made on it by the distributor that bought it (reshoot, professional sound mix and sound edit, etc...) pushed the budget too about 500k-750k type range of the movie released to the public. Paranormal Activity is probably the record holder, not much prints cost, Blum complete cheap production, 193m box office on a rumored 15k budget. On the big budget side, the amount of money Star Wars ended up doing for the investment must be quite something (ditto Lion King, Cars, etc...) For movies with a budget of at least a certain size, would not be that surprised if Ne Zha had the best ROI. not Blair Witch Project which cost a lot for distribution What I meant, budget = production + marketing +distribution, profits = box office profits, ROI in this way Edited August 5, 2019 by firedeep

The final cost was ₹0.5cr. So that's barely 5x. "Jai Santoshi Maa was made with a production budget of less than 3 lakh and was released on around 15 prints for a total of 5 lakhs cost at time of release. Eventually in time nearly 300 prints had to be taken out and the cost of the film went to 50 lakhs apprx. The print and promotions cost of this film was eventually more than 15 times of the production budget." P&A cost was insane back then. Today 300 prints would cost at max ₹0.5cr and thats after 44 years of inflation. ₹45 lakh today will be ₹70k in 1975. dudalb
All American Businesses doing business in CHina are going to take a huge blow from China devaluing the Yuan. Before China's responses have been targated, this is across the board. The US film studios are take a pretty good hit from this..and even partnership with a Chinese Company will not shield them this time.
