A Marvel Fanboy
If we combine pre-sales of TASM and TDKR together, that will be about equal to TA's.So TASM/TDKR on the same day does hurt both by a LOT. Most audience have to make a choice between the two pics.

A Marvel Fanboy
Well, here is another consideration, assuming average audience is stupid that they do not really know the difference between TDKR and TASM (or they dont even bother to know). So, they go to the cinemas, pick up one and watch it and then leave. They will just come back when there is another big movie. Actually average movie goers see TDKR and TASM as the same, since both are big superhero movies. My point is, (to average audience) what being released on August 27 are not two big superhero movies: Batman and Spiderman but either Batman or Spiderman or Some-whatever-man. So the worst case: TDKR + TASM = TA. I once thought it would hurt both by about 30% released on the same day. But now I am afraid it can hurt them by at least 50%. TDKR and TASM on same day equals when only one of them gets released in terms of overal box office.
Rudolf
if that were the case the number of cinema goers would be constant weekend after weekend
fmpro
I'm predicting $80M for TDKR and $65M for TASM.Pre-sales seem weaker for them when compared to other blockbusters.Again.. Like USA.. I think...Presales says very little sometimes..

A Marvel Fanboy
According to screen schedules on August 27 in the 15 major cities, both TDKR and TASM will respectively take 40% showtimes national wide while all other movies share the left 20%.http://tbzs.sinaapp.com/showtime.php?selectDay=2012-08-

keysersoze123
will the presales double every day till monday?
A Marvel Fanboy
will the presales double every day till monday?Maybe not. But still weak even if they do.For comparision, pre-sales for other blockbusters by the Sunday:TF3 > 1M+Titanic 3D > 1M+TA > 300kSo TDKR and TASM combining equals TA on presales at the most. The Dark Alfred
But if people choose a certain film, wouldn't they come back the next couple of days to watch the other one? OD will will hit by the same release date, but surely it will make both films having better legs.

The Dark Alfred
I understand that the government is stupid, but are the people as well? OW will be surely hit, but hopefully in the long run people will show up for both. However it does kill the repeat viewings I guess. TDKR should still be good for 75m. Fake
Is the face-off scheduling gonna continue into 2013 as well?We could see another set of potential 100M grossers missing the mark if they are released against each other - Skyfall and TH1. A Marvel Fanboy
Not if they think it's the same movie, which was Firedeep's point earlier.Exactly.Some people may just see TDKR but not TASM while others choose TASM. And when they are available to go to theaters again, TDKR/TASM will no longer be there.
