I know I should wait till official confirmation available or at least more solid source available to report this little news below. But well, after all these bullshit movie-scheduling stuffs we have seen, you cant really rely on any official confirmation (if there is ever one). So whatever, here it is.

At first, FF6 should have stayed in May, then it was on June 8, then June 20. And Universal had been promoting it with June 20 for more than two weeks (not that two weeks promotion is bad/short given how late foreign movies get dated here). Well now apparently, FF6 is on longer there. Not June 20, not June. Point is, no one really has any idea where the hell it will move to. It simply is just GONE.

Speculation has begun with the gone of FF6. And there are majorly two:

1. Man of Steel will be released on June 20 to repalce FF6. Surprisingly though we cant really put much trust on it. Firstly it is still "early", in the stardard of how Sarft schedules Hollywood movies. Then after all, every big Hollywood movie was said to get a plesiochronous release at the beginning. Then it just got pushed back again and again, and eventually got delayed for two-months-plus.

However if it turns out to be true ... it will mean the Sarft is becoming cleverER: firstly, MoS apparently is less destructive to local films than FF6. And by replacing FF6 with MoS, it gives more room to local films to grab cashes. Secondly, Sarft can say " see ?  it is not that we are not releasing foreign/Hollywood movies (at all), but we have to release MoS first". Thus, Universal now can hate WB (you take our place !) instead of hating Sarft. And possibly, Sarft are just showing some little NICE to WB by doing this.

There is alway the third. Today Sarft can replace FF6 with MoS, then tomorrow they could replace MoS with After Earth. We could only believe it when we see it opens (if only it wont pull a Django Unchained ...)

2. It is just the Sarft's usual stalling tactics. It is better to tell the public that MoS is coming despite FF6 is missing, instead of nothing is coming. You just wait, and finally realize nothing actually comes on June 20.

Like less than two weeks ago, Jurrasic Park 3D was soppused to come on June 2 and now that film is nowhere to be found. It is simply gone. Point is, you never know.

How many Hollywood films have to "underperform" before it becomes less a question of over-/underperforming and more a question of revising expectations?

For this year, Croods overperformed, IM3 did above expectation, GIJ2 did average. As for the rest ...

But yeah, we should have revised expectations for foreign movies in China, despite local films keep breaking out big one after another ...

When is Children's Day in China? Every movies across the board should get a boost, right?

Also, Olive, about IM3, how many more days will it be in theater? What's the likely finished total?

Thank you in advance :D

Firedeep I've got 2 questions if I may, first what makes you think MOS might be the replacement for fast 6? And second do you think it can do Gi-joe 2 biz (ala 50 mil +) in China?

A bunch of new dates, per Mtime:

MOS - 6/20

After Earth - 7/12

White House Down - 7/22

FF6 - 7/26

Pacific Rim - 7/31

JP3D - 8/20 (lol)

They must be a little worried about FF6, shoving it between two other imports like that. (It also doesn't get a proper opening weekend, since July 26th is a Sunday.) I'm sure some of these dates won't stick, but so far it seems July won't be the dead zone it was last year.

There are now largely speculations and rumors that MoS will be released on June 20, replacing earlier dated FF6. And you can even find a report here on Mtime.com

http://news.mtime.com/2013/05/29/1512431.html

They are reporting according to a guy from China Film Company. And according the guy, this summer's Hollywood schedule looks to be like this:

MoS 6.20

After Earth 7.12

White House Down 7.22

Pacific Rim 7.31

FF6 7.26

Jurrasic Park 8.20

And of course, MoS has $50M potiental in China. FF6 has $80M.

Thanks for that, wow that's good news if true, it means MOS can top 300 million internationally if it does big in china, hope that's the case.

Tuesday Box Office:

Star Trek into Darkness -- 24M $3.85M, including midnight and preview. That should put it on track for 125M $20M 6-days opening and 250M $40M total, better than my early projection.

ADIC -- 15M, flat with its Monday. ADIC didnt get effected by STID. Though it is not meeting my earlier projection, it will still finish with 500M+.

Croods -- 1.4M, down 36% from Monday. Its daily gross has already beaten that of IM3. It should also beat IM3 for this full week. Its cume now 355M.

IM3 -- 1.3M, down 57% from Monday. It got serious hurt from STID. Cume now 740M, it will probably end its run with around 760M $122M.

Oblivion cume as of 5.28 142M $22.8M.

Hopefully,STID gets a Children's day boost too.

Children's day is not a luckly day for STID and American Dream in China. Maybe both of them just get about 20% of the show. Croods and four local animated movies will take over 50% of shows on that day. Haha,I'm thinking about Croods could pass one of STID and American Dream in China on 6.1. :D Edited by cjk
