I doubt that. It's more about nostalgia and the improving economy. The economy has improved dramatically in recent years. Many families can now afford to go to the movies.

MANILA, May 26, 2017 – Walt Disney Pictures' new high-seas adventure Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge sailed to a triumphant start at the Philippine box-office at No.1 as it nabbed an opening day gross of P14.5-M nationwide May 24. This was announced today by a spokesman of Walt Disney Studios Philippines.

 

Salazar's Revenge is the fifth film in the now iconic Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise, which returns Johnny Depp to his Academy Award®-nominated role as the outrageous, swashbuckling antihero Captain Jack Sparrow.

The forum started last Nov 2011, months after the 4th PIRATES. It's difficult to find updates for the first four movies especially regarding opening day figures just like what's in the article above. I can give you weekend numbers though. Give me a sec.

Has their been a movie in the Philippines that was very leggy, because movies released their are front-loaded like making over 50 percent of it total on opening weekends. Why is the Philippines a frontloaded market.

From last year I'm guessing South Korea's Train to Busan had a leggy run here because that one was a word of mouth hit. When I was a kid Titanic ran for nearly a year 

 

Usually local movies are the ones that are leggy especially the ones released around September and October when there's no major Hollywood movie so they can spend a lot of times in theaters. When there's a big Hollywood movie, the first weekend they dominate the screen share so the demand is easily burned out. The major cinema chains are ran by malls and we don't reallyhave  that much screens, the biggest mall here have 12 screens only, normal malls have around 3-5 screens so turnover rate with movies is quick

Most movies here are usually given just a month before they're replaced (although there are exceptions). Some even just play for two weeks and that's it. So most people watch them in their first two weeks.

The DC Super Hero’s first-ever standalone film stands tall, overpowers competition

MANILA, June 5, 2017 – One of the best-reviewed and most-anticipated Super Hero movies of all time, director Patty Jenkins’s epic action adventure “Wonder Woman” soared to the top of the Philippine box office on its opening weekend, earning a record-shattering P233-M, and still climbing.

Other notable records achieved were the second biggest opening weekend for the year (surpassing “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2” at P159-M); fourth biggest June opening weekend all-time (ahead of “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” at P210-M) and second biggest opening weekend ever for a Warner Bros. (overtaking “Batman v Superman: Dawn Justice at P162-M for a two-day weekend).

“Wonder Woman” arrived in PH cinemas on a wave of universally enthusiastic reviews and unprecedented want-to-see scores. WW now earned 412.7M making it the second-highest grossing film this year. 

 

Will it beat BvS to become the biggest DCEU movie in the country? I think that one grossed around 550M.
