We don't know that, but the Affleck snub certainly offered an interesting narrative to Argo's race for Oscar. 

 

 

 

It would be a crazy ass travesty too, since the infinitely superior A Separation and the masterpiece Pan's Labyrinth, received none of this undeserved Amour foreign love from the Academy.

 

Yes, those two movies are masterpieces. But your opinion is in the minority. Amour is a masterpiece too and I'm glad the Academy is giving Haneke the credit he deserves.
