AniNate
I'm not sure how much Andrew Stanton's directly involved with this movie, but he just tweeted this: http://twitter.com/#...968736743460864 "(sigh) Yeah. Studio anxiety + focus groups = compromised trailer, IMHO" So there you go: A Pixar head admitting that they don't cut very good trailers Edited December 22, 2011 by tribefan695
Gopher
Sounds like he's talking about John Carter. Which makes sense, that Kashmir cover is terrible.
AniNate
No, it's a conversation with a blogger about Brave's marketing. And shut up, that Kashmir cover's awesome! Edited December 22, 2011 by tribefan695
ddddeeee
I'm just relieved to hear the trailer is "compromised".
Founder / Operator Shawn Robbins Posted December 22, 2011 Founder / Operator Share Posted December 22, 2011 (edited) ^The above comments are rather ironic, because the main reason I came into this thread was to share my thoughts on the trailer. I've seen it twice in theaters recently, and it was shockingly mediocre. Like...worse than usual for Pixar trailers, IMO. I really hope this is just How to Train Your Dragon Redux (shoddy marketing campaign itself). Still, Monsters 2 and their next two original projects have always sounded more interesting than Brave to me anyway. AniNate
Chapman and Stanton's comments are raising my hopes that they really are making an effort to not have this be as generic as the advertising may imply. But I suppose this is what happens when you churn out a dud like Cars 2. People aren't as willing to say "Yeah, but it's Pixar, so you know it's still going to be awesome" anymore. ddddeeee
I love the visuals and the music, but I just loathe that Pixar had the opportunity to do something really different with their first female protagonist, yet they're using the same old rebellious, tomboy angle which in many ways just reinforces the percieved superiority of male attributes. Well that's just based on the trailer, I hope the movie is a lot different.
AniNate
The feeling I get from Stanton's replies to the blogger is that's not what it's going to be at all. EDIT: I suppose I should give the guy a better description than "blogger". It's John August who's written a lot of Tim Burton's movies. Founder / Operator Shawn Robbins Posted December 23, 2011 Founder / Operator Share Posted December 23, 2011 I definitely could see the trailer being a product of studio influence. Its really hard to tell at this point in time.
AniNate
I don't doubt the studio influence in any of their trailers, frankly. We've always criticized Pixar trailers for playing up the slapstick elements. No one knew about any dead wife in Up until they saw the movie and I'm notoriously hateful towards the final WALL-E trailer for trivializing Eve's character. ddddeeee
They've definitely hidden the more fantastical moments of the film. That and they didn't really explain the plot at all.
AniNate
To be fair, we're still pretty far away from release so I didn't really expect a detailed plot synopsis from the trailer. The Dark Knight Rises and Prometheus' new trailers were just as cryptic.

druv10
Still looks great. No doubt the animation for Brave will be great but story will be key to its success.
Hiccup
Great still. The animation looks great but the humans heads look funny

ddddeeee
Patrick Doyle has a role in the movie and said the movie could be a tear jerker. Edited December 24, 2011 by ddddeeee

druv10
I know Pixar is close to vest on story lines but they need to put out decent trailer showing a little bit what the movie is about.
