Rewatched this today for the first time in maybe four years. It holds up really well. A nice mixture of seriousness and humor; most other Marvel movies lean closer to the latter, but this is actually pretty serious. Of course RDJ is perfect in the role, but the realism of this movie is refreshing compared to the other MCU movies. A+

Rewatched this for the first time since the cinema, 6 year ago, and unfortunately, I've got to say it's a disappointment.

Loved it back then...and how quickly time flies. The one that innocuously started it all...heh.

Anywho, the biggest problem I had with this is the same as Casino Royale, which I watched for the first time since the cinema after 6 years too in 2012, and that is it just drags and the screen/shot is filled with dead air/space.

It feels very drab, boring and a little cheap. The villain, just like in CR, also is really kinda pathetic and forgettable.

Ah, time. This means that besides the Avengers, only The Incredible Hulk remains on the A/A- level. We'll see if they hold up eventually.

Finally rewatched it after 5 years, definitely better than I remembered, in fact it overtook TA position as the best MCU film.

Paltrow and RDJ chemistry, the bigger focus in their relationship than the usual, it's always greatly enjoyable to see them interacting.
RDJ incredible performance, much better than the caricature that he's playing in the sequels and The Avengers films.
the humor, so overdone in the sequels, is incredibly well balanced and effective.
the "less is more" approach taken with special effects, which holds up quite well today.
the not so memorable but super effective score, which contributes to the sober tone of the movie.
Terrence Howard is so much better as Rhodey than Don Cheadle, he passes that grumpy and more responsible traits that the character is supposed to have.
Other praises goes to the well done character arc and Favreau direction.

It has that unique feel that every movie should have, instead of those happy meals that Marvel has been producing since the first Avengers. Up there with the best superhero origin films, among Spider-Man and Batman Begins.

85/100

Some say that the battle/third act is weak, but this is so much better

than this

Iron Man kicks off the Marvel Cinematic Universe in spectacular fashion. The seeds are planted for what would soon become the Marvel tone, but it's also much more realistic and heavy than what would follow. Favreau's direction has never been as great, featuring zooms and wipe cuts to make a unique pulpy tone that keeps its political mindset prominent. Downey is perfect as Iron Man and even better as Tony Stark, and Paltrow has good chemistry with him. Bridges is an alright villain with good ham, but I'd be reaching to say anything else about the cast. It definitely has the best Iron Man action in any movie, as it's content with Iron Man fighting people rather than other iron suits (until the average climax). Iron Man is an entertaining fun blockbuster with one spectacular performance at the center of it, and it's obvious how this set off the current superhero phenomenon. A-

I decided to watch all the MCU movies before Civil War since I haven't seen half of them in years and never got around to do it last year before Ultron.

Iron Man is one of the Marvel movies I 've watched many times, I never change the channel when it's on tv but it's not one of my favorites. It a pretty good origin story but especially after he wears the suit it kind of goes on autopilot until the end. The villain is whatever even if bald bearded Jeff Bridges looks cool, and most of the characters are just there. The only character that makes any impression besides Tony is Pepper, and I give huge props to Gwyneth for that. She's given very little to work with and she makes a character of that.

But yeah this movie is RDJs through and through, way more than Favreau's or Kevin Feige's. I think he's very good as Tony Stark in every movie but this will always be his best. The comparison someone made with Jack Sparrow in this thread is pretty much on point. In every sequel you kind of see how both the performers and the writers of those characters cannot contain themselves because they know how much the audience loves it, but in the first one it still feels so pure and unassuming. He's just the protagonist of the story not MCUs biggest star and selling point.

B+.

Iron Man kicks off the MCU in a spectacular fashion. Robert Downey Jr.'s performance here is still his best as the character, portraying so many different elements of what makes Tony Stark the famous hero he is. The villain leaves a lot to be desired, and Stark's relationship with Potts is a lot more underwritten than I remembered. Still, Iron Man succeeds thanks to a more unique tone and a strong hero for the ages. B

For me, right up there with the original Superman and Spider-man as the best origin film ever made.  RDJ is a huge reason why but there's just so much right with the film.  In fct everything is pretty much perfect.  The entire section with him building his suit at home and talking to his machines, is one of the best sequences I've ever seen.  The fire extinguisher he treats like a dog is pretty funny stuff.  The complaint people have about this one is the lack of a good villain but imo, this is more about discovery than it is dealing with a bad guy.  Iron Man is the film that got the MCU going.  Without it, if it failed, we wouldn't have the state of super-hero films that we do today.  And 11 billion dollars later, the MCU is one of the strongest franchises ever created.  Iron Man is the 2nd best film in the series, imo.
