dashrendar44
Man of steel had better special effects than half of the movies on the short list. MoS better than Gravity > Nope MoS better than Pacific Rim > Debatable but PR's colourful artistic direction made it coherent and homogenic whereas MoS VFX were jarring from scene to scene in an unbalanced mix of good to awful.(One scene you got a jet crashing in a photoreal collapsing building then you got those horrible mechas snakes that look like painful CGI mess for the eyes. One scene you got a photoreal Kryptonian armor moving on Zod then you got an obvious CG rubber double doing impossible cartoonish Dragon Ball-like stunt). Krypton's intro was a non-stop green screen CGI-fest overload like SW prequels. MoS better than IM3 > Debatable since IM3 doesn't delve and revel in disaster porn to showcase its effects so it seems CGI are less present. And when they are, they're serviceable to the story, not particularly obvious "Look how awesome those CGI shit explode all over the place". MoS better than TH2 > We don't know yet and knowing WETA had a hand in both, they'd rather take the crown for Hobbit. MoS better than Star Trek > Just like IM3, debatable but STiD's VFX are not as jarring. In fact, MoS might be only better than WWZ as a fact. The Stingray
Imo, Man of Steel, with its desaturated color palette and video game graphics-overload, did not deserve to make the top 10.
CoolioD1
Out of that top 10 Oblivion might be my second favorite, VFX wise. Hope it can sneak in.
John Marston
People just hated Man of Steel, and rightly so. first off, quality of the movie has nothing to do with visual effects and also critical and commercial flop The Lone Ranger is on that shortlist
pieman
first off, quality of the movie has nothing to do with visual effects and also critical and commercial flop The Lone Ranger is on that shortlist I think it plays some role (and as a side note I maintain that despite it's problems, TLR was a better movie than MOS). But out of that shortlist, there aren't many that I would replace it with based on VFX alone. Maybe WWZ or Thor 2? kayumanggi
OBLIVIONSTAR TREK INTO DARKNESS Only these so far. Not IRON MAN lll, not MOS. Ehem. I hope OBLIVION and STID makes the cut. I think GRAVITY will win though. Edited December 6, 2013 by kayumanggi
Blankments
Wait, Oz didn't make that list? Stupid...
John Marston
obviously it was never going to win but I think MOS should on there before WWZ definitely.

Ezen Baklattan
Of that list, I'll go ahead and predict. Gravity, Hobbit, Oblivion, STID, and Pacific Rim or Iron Man 3.
thunder storm
I think Gravity is the winner.
forg
Ender's Game also had good visual effects, too bad it didn't make it. Surprised Walter Mitty was snubbed as wlel Anyway, my final 5 Gravity Oblivion Iron Man 3 The Hobbit 2 Pacific Rim

ChD
I think Gravity is the winner. Gravity has it locked since it was announced (the movie).
Spidey Freak
Imo, Man of Steel, with its desaturated color palette and video game graphics-overload, did not deserve to make the top 10. Does anyone here know whether it is easier or cheaper to make effects with a desaturated color palette than with a saturated color palette? Just asking as the number of big effects movies with desaturated colors >> number of big effects movies with saturated and bright colors. thunder storm
Gravity has it locked since it was announced (the movie). And in 2012 everyone said that Viola Davis will win for best actress. But Meryl Streep won actually.
ChD
And in 2012 everyone said that Viola Davis will win for best actress. But Meryl Streep won actually. Yeah, Streep's a bitch. She wins even if she doesn't deserve to.
CoolioD1
And in 2012 everyone said that Viola Davis will win for best actress. But Meryl Streep won actually. That's not rly a comparable situation... Yeah, Streep's a bitch. She wins even if she doesn't deserve to. What the hell?
Jack Nevada
Yeah, Streep's a bitch. She wins even if she doesn't deserve to. .. she had not won in nearly 30 years?
