BOT Top 100 Animated Films of all time - 24hours left to get votes in...

Recommended Posts

So @cannastop started this thread a couple days ago:

but people wanted it to expand beyond a top 10 which was more than they could manage. Luckily for everybody, being the hero that I am, I have offered to step in and save the world by expanding the list to a top 100 (or in @Baumer loves Oogieloves and @NuTella Lover of Sky Beams's case a top 3 [if Roger Rabbit is eligible which it isn't}).

So now we can reboot the thread as a top 100. Here are the rules as I see them, but they are flexible:

* Lists of any length are eligible. Ordered is very much preferred but non-ordered will be accepted and points given as a average according to list size.

* Any film that received a cinematic release somewhere in the world is eligible for TV specials and straight to video is not (unless to can give me evidence of a cinematic run somewhere in the world).

* It has to be pure animation, hybrids like Mary Poppins, Space Jam etc do not count.**

* Single shorts are not eligible (e.g. the Pixar shorts before main features), but a cinematically released composed set of shorts like say Fantasia, and some of the early WDAS stuff is allowed (let's say anything over 60Mins is OK).

*Animation includes 2D, 3D, Stop Motion, Puppetry (like Team America), Pure Mocap (Final Fantasy, Polar Express but not the new Jungle Book and CGI spectaculars)

**Animations with very short amounts of live action such as Lego Movie and Wall E are Okay though.

Scoring will be as shown in spoilers.

I think I might wait till I catch up on some foreign animation. just ordered Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. and it should be here soon. been meaning to watch Akira forever as well. and Only Yesterday.

is films Like Ghost in the Shell, Grave of the Fireflies and Paprika as good as I've heard?

I might watch these on Netflix before my free month is up:

  • The Little Prince
  • How to Train Your Dragon 2
  • The Secret of Kells
  • World of Tomorrow
  • Chicken Run (need to revisit it to see if it's worthy)

How to train your dragon 2 is great, really liked world of tomorrow, but Is it eligible? Its a short film.

Count me in. But I need to watch Kubo, The Boy and the Beast and The Garden of Words before making this list, luckily we have until the end of the month.

Edit: Hm, Garden of Words is 46 minutes long, is it eligible?

I don't think my Top 20 will change, though...

Yeah, all in their own ways. Word of warning, though, Grave might be the most gut-wrenching movie ever made.

Grave of the fireflies is potentially the best animated film ever made,  but i never want to watch it again.

Yeah, technically a film must 40 minutes before it is considered feature length. But I'd double check with chasmmi, seeing he said 60 mintues. I personally I have seen The Garden of Words, and was pretty disapointed with it, it's beautiful to look at, and the story fine I guess. But I found it overly sappy, and it really could have used a longer run time to develop the story more.
