New spoiler policy that pertains to a movie in its first two weeks

There probably should be some clarification on what's considered to be the first week of release. Considering that some movies are released overseas a week or more before their US release or movies that have a limited release a week more before going wide.

Anyway, I think this new rule is really nice as well but does the time limit for talking about spoilers still apply? A movie couldn't be discussed outside of its thread without spoiler-tags until it came out in blu-ray/DVD, correct? Is that still a thing?

Yes, that's still in place. This new rule is targeting just the daily/weekend numbers threads.

Thank you for mentioning this, and it's a very good point. The staff just discussed it and we've decided to adjust the rule slightly to accommodate different release dates overseas.

The adjusted rule is this:

no spoiler discussion (tagged or otherwise) in daily/weekend numbers threads for the first two weeks after a movie is first released (and date of release is whenever it's first released publicly worldwide). Hopefully that will account for the vast majority of things like Marvel releasing overseas a week early.

Sounds like unnecessary moderation (people have no self control and will click on spoilers against their own will? k?)

There is that, which is plain stupidity on the part of people who open spoiler tags. Nobody forces anyone to look. Those who lack the common sense to avoid clicking on spoilers deserve derision more than protection, imo.

But the bigger problem is people who can't (or don't want to) stop themselves from hinting about major spoilers after seeing movies. Banning that kind of behavior is something I can agree with. We should be able to read threads without feeling like we're walking through a minefield of almost-spoilers and guessing games.

You're missing one of the main reasons this was created and that is when you use the spoiler icon on tap talk, it doesn't cover spoilers when you are on mobile.  So someone just wanting to come in for the weekend numbers can be spoiled because of the technology.  So this is a good new policy.

Frankly, the next "problem" that needs to be addessed is the massive number of pinned posts on the box office discussion forum. The pinned posts not only make scrolling past then a pain, but they push 8 - 10 film related threads onto the second page. As a result, threads for upcoming and recently released films can end up buried fairly quickly. There is just too much clutter on the first page.

Why not let all but a couple of the pinned threads float like all the others? Each weekend's box office threads should be pinned, of course, But do all of the others absolutely need to stay at the top of the forum? Some of the pins could be in the speakeasy, others might be put in an administrative topics subforum. Just do something to kill the clutter. Please!

Normally it's only the Buzz thread, Weekend Predict, Casino, the Archive, Winter/Summer Game, and sometimes the CCT. I really don't get why people complain about pinned threads so much; when there's a lot, it's usually cleaned within a few days.

Usually, there are at least 8 (eight) pinned threads. Above those are the subforums. It's a pain in the ass to scroll past all that on a phone. All I'm suggesting is some restraint in pinning topics that should sink or swim just like the film threads do.

I feel like you're overblowing the issue here. It's really not that big of a struggle to scroll down a page a little. The second page isn't exactly a death sentence for a thread either.

FWIW we are aware of the amount of pinned threads and the frustration it causes some. We do look at minimizing when possible and we'll keep doing so. I don't want you to think we just ignore it.

Is this an issue?  Is this forum causing mass amounts of Carpal Tunnel from scrolling?

Eh, I didn't even notice.  I have faith in our forum overlords.
