  1. ZDT estimates just kept dropping. Initial numbers had it at 30, then high 20's, then mid 20's and finally settling at 24.GS followed a similar pattern, although to a lesser extent.AHH was just the opposite, estimates kept going up. How this opened over 18 mil is beyond me, I though just getting to 10 would be an amazing opening for it.
  2. I have to agree, GS isn't great, but it's not bad either. It's just one of those "middling" kind of movies that probably make up 75% of wide releases every year, not great or bad, just a kind of filler.I really wanted it to be great, but even though it's not I don't regret seeing it, it was good violent fun at times, and seeing Penn eventually getting a beat down is a big plus, and Emma is smokin' hot in this, even though most of the time she has very little to do (god do I miss her as a redhead).
  3. I saw GS last night and his voice was unusually high pitched, Crazy,Stupid,Love. just happened to be on this morning and I immediately noticed that while his voice is high in CSL it isn't nearly as high as it is in GS. He's pretty buff so my first thought was "steroids?"
  4. Seth MacFarlane and Emma Stone will be announcing this years Nominees at 5 AM Thursday Jan. 10 Seth MacFarlane ‏@SethMacFarlane I'll be announcing the Oscar nominees on Jan. 10 at 5 a.m. with Emma Stone. We'll also be revealing the name of Kanye & Kim's baby (Zeus).
  5. They are doing their very best to kill the league. After the last lockout it took 2-3 years to recover and I pretty much stopped watching regular season games at that point, juts watched the playoffs. That is significant as I was a die-hard hockey fan growing up (I grew up in Alberta during the Edmonton Oilers glory days, awesome time to be a fan). After this lockout, if it ever ends, I might just tune in for the Stanley Cup final. While both sides are to blame I feel most of it is on the owners side, and especially Bettman, they just seem bent on crushing the union rather than come to a deal. I really want to see the players union decertify now and watch the fireworks as antitrust lawsuits start flying.
  6. No, 36 is not old, just observing that even though Keri Russell is 36 she could still easily pass for 30.

  8. I hadn't heard about this show until I started seeing ads for it while watching a Sons of Anarchy marathon yesterday. Not a lot of info on IMDB but the ads have centered around Keri Russell and appears to be about Russian sleeper agents in the U.S.The ads certainly look interesting, enough to at least check it out when it airs next month. On a side note, Keri Russell is looking really good, she doesn't look anywhere near 36.
  9. How many markets does WIR still have to open in? I don't know how accurate BOM is these days but I don't see any numbers for Australia, Italy, Brazil, the U.K., Spain, Japan or China (will it get a release in China?).
  10. These aren't in order seen, I had to use BOM yearly BO list to make sure I don't forget any. 57 Different movies by my count. The only movie left this year I haven't seen that I might is Life of Pi. 12. Rth, on 27 December 2012 - 05:52 AM, said: Dont know what I did with GT should be more like 1.7m TH1 11.4 (it may drop bit more with actuals), LM looks more like 12.1,DJ 10m TH1 had 105% increase in Can over Xmas day, LM 65%,JR 69%,DU 62%
  13. I would have loved to see LM on AVX, it would be well worth the extra cost for a movie like this, not to mention I love reserved seating for big movies, nothing like strolling in 5 minutes before showtime and going straight to your prime location seat. When I saw LM and DU on Xmas I had to make sure to leave an hour between them just for getting in line, which turned out to be just right, I was about 50th in line for DU but within 10 more minutes the line had swelled to over 200.
  14. Yup, Scotiabank, Looks like TH is up to 49 seats sold for AVX, BUT at Silvercity Metrotown it's a paltry 32.I am very curious as to today's numbers, are theaters in my area typical or will the US differ substantially from Canada today?
  15. I don't think TH will outpace LM , even though it has more shows. Looking at my nearest multiplex that I frequent regularly TH has 12 showings today but only 2 sellouts. The 12 shows are on 3 screens with seating capacity of 420, 180 and 130, the single biggest and 2 smallest auditoriums at this multiplex and the sell outs came in the 2 small screens, 1 each while LM has sold out 6 of its 7 shows, both auditoriums are between 250 and 300 seats. From a business perspective the theater should have dropped TH from one of the small screens and concentrated the crowd more and given it to LM which is clearly in need of more seating.Whoa, I just checked 420 seater which is UltraAVX which is reserved seating so you can see how many seats are sold. I can only check on shows yet to start so that means just the 10:45 show, and TH has sold just 38 tickets so far.
  16. I'm sure it is likely to happen but it won't be because of theaters near me. The theater near me sold out all 7 showings yesterday and tonight it is 6 out of 7 with the last one getting close and over 3 hours left to sell out.Now that I think about it, Canada might actually soften the blow for drops today. Yesterday happened to fall on discount Tuesday which means ticket prices were $7.99 instead of the normal $12.99 for openers, but they are back to full price today and selling out the same number of shows.
  17. Double feature day for me. Les Miserables 11:35 AM showing, 250-300 seat auditorium- SOLD OUT Trailers: The Great Gatsby- Interesting trailer, good reaction. Identity Theft- Definitely interest from the crowd and some laughs during the trailer. There was 1 more but I'm drawing a blank. The crowd loved the movie and there were big reactions throughout. There was audible sniffling during several scenes, most notably Hathaway's Dream a Dream and the scene near the end As it ended the crowd burst into applause, something I havent seen since I saw Black Swan on opening day. I loved the movie, although it took me maybe 15 minutes to adjust to every line being sung, but after that it felt natural and I really didn't notice it. A solid 9/10 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Django Unchained 3:20 PM showing, 250-300 seat auditorium- SOLD OUT! Trailers- Gangster squad- solid reaction Oblivion- almost no reaction A Good Day To Die Hard- Very mild reaction The Last Stand- There were a few audible groans, not a good sign The Movie The crowd ate up every blood soaked minute and there was lots of laughs sprinkled throughout, especially the scene about "the hoods". Obviously opening day the theaters will be filled with Tarantino fans so crowd reaction should be enthusiastic, but even so this was a fun crowd to see a movie with. Another 9/10
  18. The theaters were massively busy here today with the combination of Xmas day and discount Tuesday.I saw the first showing of LM at 11:35 AM and by the time that ended all 7 shows for the day were sold out and DU had 3 of its 8 shows sold out.By the time the 3:20 showing of DU let out the board was littered with sell outs, by my count all 7 LM shows, 6 of 8 DU shows, 3 of 11 TH shows, 2 of 4 LOP shows and 2 of 4 JR shows were sold out. I'm sure some of the later shows will sell out too, the line ups were still massive as I left.
  19. TH committed the 1 sin I find unforgivable in movies, it bored me. I would actually prefer to hate or be angered by a movie than be bored by it.
  20. Theaters in my area dropped the last evening shows so the final shows of the day started around 7 pm. I don't know if this is just in B.C. or if that is Canada wide though.
  21. I wonder how much Xmas business is walk ups? Looking at local theaters Les Mis is up to 6 total sell outs (4 just from the theater I'm seeing it at today, the first 4 shows so far), but no other movie at any theater has even 1 yet. I seem to recall last year virtually everything was selling out, but I didn't check before the theater opened, that was mid afternoon I was seeing all those sell outs.
  22. 2 things surprise me with those numbers, MI3D dropped nearly a quarter million from estimates, just bad for a movie that opened under 5 mil.2nd is that Taken 2 is still in theaters. I haven't really looked down past the top 10 or 12 in a while, but I thout it was long gone by now.
  23. Hard to say just 1 since on any given episode a different character can be the best, but Animal, Beaker and Swedish Chef were always the funniest.I always wondered, how come the old Muppets episodes never air on any of the oldies channels, I'd definitely watch if they would put them on, but they seem intent on forcing people to watch Seinfeld, Golden Girls and All in the Family ad nausiem rather than things like The Muppets, WKRP In Cincinnati and Night Court.
