While it's no doubt that the Modern Family cast is talented, to state that they're more important than the writers is wrong. They got those Emmy nominations because of the great scripts that led to those performances. Not only that, but you seemed to ignore what I said-the actors are making more money than the people who make sure that the jokes are top-notch to begin with. If we're really going by on importance, then the writing team deserves to also make way more money than they're currently making. After all-you're argument is that Modern Family cast deserves that raise because their important to the show. And yet you ignore the people behind-the-scenes who work hard to make Modern Family episodes work as well as they do. That's hypocritical in my opinion.
Half the average? $65,000 is the average for a TV actor on most shows. The numbers you listed are for TV leads (which is different)-which could have only applied to Ed O'Neil when those contracts were drawn up as he was the only star. This is an ensemble show without a few main characters (like in the Big Bang Theory, where the leads are easily Penny, Leonard, and Sheldon or CSI: Miami with David Horatio). As to #1 scripted show, it is number one in terms of adults 18-49 (which is what matters to advertisers/networks) but not in viewers (which is what matters to the public).
Kiefer Sutherland gets the salary not because of Touch, but because of 24. Ashton Kutcher gets that salary because he's a movie star and because his time on That 70's Show. There's a reason Ed O'Neill was making more money than the rest of his cast until this deal-his time on Married with Children.
You also fail to neglect how in the case of Touch, Kiefer Sutherland is the only one the network has to pay an absurd amount of money to. In the case of Modern Family, there are six actors-making it more costly for 20th Century Fox.
I'm not saying that them getting raises are bad, but let's not pretend that it's a crime against nature for them to not get them.
