  1. The spillover was due to low theater count. I think it will drop 55% this week and then stabilize.
  2. I don't have any problem with Fassbender playing Jobs but I have very little interest in biopics like this. Everest looks great and should make a lot of money for Universal.
  3. The only actor who could've opened this movie to over $30 million was once attached to the movie.
  4. This Trank and Wachowskis comparison is really wrong. Wachowskis' movies have struggled at the box office recently but Trank's problems go beyond the box office itself. He is now being seen as incompetent and unreliable. Nobody wants to give $50 million to an incompetent and unreliable director. He will probably have to go the indie route to prove himself.
  5. Flop movies used to kill careers back when the studio system rule Hollywood. Now more movies are made outside of the studio system than inside it. Trank will be able to rebound if he wants it enough. The guy is barely 30 years old.
  6. American Ultra looks entertaining but I doubt it will be fresh. Sinister was barely fresh and horror sequels typically get worse critical reception so Sinister 2 will also likely be rotten. The Visit is guaranteed to be rotten even if it is a good movie.
  7. I hope this stays fresh because based on the release schedule we may not get another fresh wide release movie until the September 18th weekend. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/schedule/
  8. They need a couple of veteran actors too. I know that the star system isn't as important nowadays but this is an untested property and they are better off with a couple of Internationally familiar faces.
  9. Great start for STX Entertainment. Their first movie is going to open to over $10 million and has a good shot at $40 million. FYI, STX Entertainment is run by Adam Fogelson , the guy who was running Universal Pictures until very recently and greenlit some of the movies (Pitch Perfect, Ted, the fifth Fast and Furious and Despicable Me ) that made this record year possible. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/stx-film-chief-adam-fogelson-812978
  10. Tim Blake Nelson in O Brother Where Art Thou ? is one of the most pitch perfect roles of the past 20 years.
  11. Ricki and the Flash should have a good multiplier so $3.3 million Friday isn't end of the world. Solid number for The Gift.
  12. I don't think so for a couple of reasons. Tropic Thunder had a great cast and it was also a comedy movie first. Action first movie like this with a less than A-list cast will probably do in the $70-80 million range even with good reviews.
  13. WB is going all out on TV marketing. They have spend $16.4 million on TV ads in the past 7 days and more than half (60%) of those ads are The Man From UNCLE spots so they may have spend as much as $9-10 million on this movie in the past week. http://www.ispot.tv/free-reports/top-spenders-tv-ads
  14. Walter HickeyVerified account‏@WaltHickey Sounds like "Pixels" is dogshit, in keeping with The Three Types Of Adam Sandler Movies http://53eig.ht/1EnC3rs https://twitter.com/WaltHickey/status/624687519775502336
  15. Sony has Spectre, Hotel Transylvania 2, Goosebumps and a couple of Oscar-bait movies. Their year is going to get a lot better.
  16. Sony will be fine. They have one of the more interesting movie slates of 2016. On the other hand, Relativity is fucked. Full Story - http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/relativitys-movie-slate-imperiled-as-811005?utm_source=twitter
  17. That's the real reason why Amy Pascal is no longer running the studio. Sony and Paramount have horrible slates for the first half of this year. They should do better in the second half.
  18. David Poland ‏@DavidPoland 10m10 minutes ago Did any one actually expect a good review of an Adam Sandler movie. It’s not a great film… but not nearly as bad as the high drama. David Poland ‏@DavidPoland 8m8 minutes ago My college-attending 19-year-old nephew had a great time. My 5.5-year-old liked it when there was fighting. I wished Pixels tried harder.
  19. My hope is that another mid-major will buy it from Relativity and give it a Q1 2016 release. I think the movie has potential if it is released during a quieter box office period but Relativity is too deep in shit to do any justice to any of their upcoming movies.
  20. Ted 2 has made just $143 million worldwide so far. I haven't been paying attention to its International rollout so it is possible that it may not have opened in some big markets but there is a possibility that it may miss $200 million. This will be a massive drop for a sequel to a well-received comedy that made $550 million Worldwide.
  21. Good numbers for Mr. Holmes and Irrational Man. Stanford Prison Experiment also did fine all things considered.
