  1. Just saw it and really enjoyed it. It's exactly what you expect. A bad movie in the surface but a highly enjoyable one. Great action which is well shot and lots of shooting. Lots of funny stuff here also. People were laughing all the time with Chuck Norris. Van Damme is the only one really acting and he seems to be in his own twisted movie. He was good but kinda strange. From he's movements to his accent. Arnold was having a blast obviously and got the most laughs after Norris. But Willis looked kinda bored. A fun film. The target audience will love it. It's easily better than the first.
  2. Sure but it's a serious step forward. MU will be the next one.
  3. I think Pixar is working their way up one step at a time. They hit a low with Cars 2 so now they have to rise again. Brave was an improvement both criticaly and b.o. wise over Cars. Monsters University could easily be another step forward. 235m is more than i thought it would do (i was in the 225m level) and i think it was in line with most people's expectations. OS isn't doing good that's for sure but it still makes some decent numbers in the Wall-E and How to Train Your Dragon levels. It will probably have an Oscar nomination also, so everything is going fine if you ask me.
  4. Solid opening for The Bourne Legacy. I thought it would do less. Still the budget is too high and i can't see it having any special legs, especially with The Expendables 2 opening next week. The francise is in trouble.Good opening for The Campaign. It had two big stars but with an R rating and a political theme. It could gain some solid legs for the rest of the summer.Solid drop for The Dark Knight Rises.Excellent start for Hope Springs. I didn't think it would make 20m for the 5 days opening. It's going to have a leggy run.Total Recall collapsed. A failure for Sony. They overestimated the Beckinsale/Wiseman combo power, the Farrell headlining factor and the Arnold-less remake issue.
  5. I think it will fall from the last one.200m
  6. The ones that i find decent or i kinda like (since none of them is really great for me but they are guilty pleasures) areBloodsportUniversal SoldierHard TargetTimecopMaximum RiskJCVD
  7. Great opening. It would be a big hit if it reaches or even surpasses 300m OS.
  8. Good weekend.First of all The Avengers is a monster. Nothing more to add.Battleship is a big flop and The Dictator will struggle to reach Bruno numbers. OS will probably save it but i was expecting more.As far as Snow White and MIB 3 go they both had really solid results. I think that they are going to have good runs. 140-150m for Snow White and 170-180m for MIB 3. But i'm in the "they cost way too much" club. They need great OS numbers to break even or turn a profit. I'm not sure their numbers so far are that good. At least i don't know if they will make enough to be a franchise starter or enough to generate another sequel.I always use the 2,5 x production budget "rule" to measure a films' success. I find it more safe especially nowadays with the production and advertisement costs growing (along with the OS markets who are stronger of course but need more marketing) and the home video market fading.I should probably wait a bit to see how they are going to perform next week or so, to see if they will end up a failure (unlikely), a hit (also unlikely) or a decent investment (probably). Just my two cents.
  9. I think it's going to be close. Around 600-650m for both.
  10. Some random movies that i like but most don't seem to2010 (nothing like 2001 of course but it's a solid sci-fi film)Alien Resurrection (it's not on par with the first 2 of course but i really like the twisted and dark humourous direction it got, yes i'm gonna get crusified for that....)The Godfather part III (again nothing like the originals but aside from Sofia Coppola's performance, i don't find anything bad about it)In the Mouth of Madness (most people i know love it but i don't think it's highly regarded anywhere else)Beowulf (actually i like all 3 Zemeckis mo-cap films!)Solaris (the Soderbergh one.. it doesn't stand a chance against the Tarkovsky film but it was really emotional and haunting for me)The Hangover part II (yes it was almost a remake of the first but it was so funny for me and it got extremely rough and edgy at times that i really liked it)Eraser (solid Arnold film from the mid-90's)The 6th Day (i love the concept, the twist and Robert Duvall's performance)Daylight (a cool Stallone film from mid-90's)Very Bad Things (actually it's the only Peter Berg movie that i like...)
  11. Although they are not ow records the Borat and The Passion of the Christ openings were equally jaw-dropping like many of the big guns.
  12. Yes i agree but i just wrote the same thing. We better shouldn't compare it to T3. Different league of franchises. Die Hard 4 is a better comparison but that didn't have Mac Tiernan and it was pg13. Indiana Jones is also a much bigger franchise and the fourth one was made 19 years after the third. I think it's also a different beast. I can't see any similarities with Prometheus to be honest. Just the R rating fact on a big expensive blockbuster. A big deal for sure but it's a prequel, it's coming off some pretty badly received sequels, Scott is coming back after 33 years etc. You know what i mean.Anyway it's not a big deal. I 'm just stating my concerns about it. I think it's a big risk and i don't think it will pay off. But i could easily be wrong.
  13. You obviously misunderstood. I wrote they weren't "that" succesful. They were but not really big. The first one sure. Big hit but not blockbuster numbers. Plus if 273m WW for a 130m budget movie is your definition of success you probably need to check some other films' grosses. You 'll see that movies can easily be more profitable than that. Especially movies that want a sequel 12 years later and carry a huge budget.I don't call anything DoA. I could be wrong but in my opinion it's a big risk and it won't be succeful enough. For example MIB3 isn't. And i'm pretty sure that BB3 would love to have Terminator 3 numbers. But that one was a sequel to T2 and the other to BB2. Huge difference don't you think? Lets not compare the two franchises.I'm with you on Prometheus. Its run could be a big factor for many Hollywood studio decisions.
  14. I don't agree to be honest. I was there also. Actually i was there when the first one came out when none of them was as big.I think i understand the popularity of this movie with regular people. Of course it has fans and of course Will Smith and Michael Bay have fans. That's not the point. The point is that this film will probably have a really big budget. A budget that probably doesn't worth spending when the first two films weren't that succeful. They did fine don't get me wrong but their numbrs aren't something to celedrate. Actually Bad Boys 2 wasn't as big as expected. And it wasn't as well received. Yes there are people that loved it and wait for a third one but i don't think there are enough for them. The salaries of the main trio will rise its budget to 170m minimum. It's an R rated sequel 12 years after the last one. Men In Black 3 isn't doing something special. It's not Indiana Jones or Terminator.I'd say Die Hard 4 is a closer comparison. It did good but can Bad Boys 3 keep the budget normal? And will they sucrifice the R rating for a better run? I don't know. I don't think that it will be successful enough to take such a big risk.
  15. I'm not sure a third Bad Boys film will be as successful as many think. The second one wasn't even that big and i'm not sure there are enough fans to make up for the huge budget that it will probably have.
  16. The weather probably effected its performance in Europe but this isn't a good opening for a 250m budget movie. It needs some good holds but competition will rise in the coming weeks. We 'll see what happens.
  17. The are a few that are close to perfect for me.If we don't count Piranha then Cameron is one.Fincher has The Game along with Alien 3 so he's not in. I just hate the ending of that film.Nolan is another one. I really like Following but i'm not a huge fan of The Prestige but it's still good.Never seen a bad Scorsese film.Never seen a bad Kubrick film either.Haneke has Time of the Wolf that i didn't care for.Von Trier has a couple that i don't like and i'm no fan of his recent trilogy. The Coen brothers are definitely in. Although Intolerable Cruelty is just decent.Tarantino had Death Proof and kinda ruined the perfect track for me.I like all of the Jean Pierre Jeunet films i' ve seen. Yes even Alien Resurrection.Paul Thomas Anderson has only Hard Eight to break the track record but it's still decent.Michael Mann has Miami Vice and The Keep that i don't like.I like all of Sam Mendes films so far but i haven't see Away We Go.Strangely enough i like almost all of the Woody Allen films to an extent with only a couple of exceptions (Scoop, Small Time Crooks).Wes Anderson had The Life Aquatic to break his streak. And Jarmusch had Limits of Control that i didn't like.I like all the Paul Greengrass films i' ve seen. And Alexander Payne has a perfect record so far but with only 5 movies.
  18. Solid numbers for Men in Black 3. Nothing extraordinary but things could be way worse. The budget is still huge though and it will need strong holds or really big OS numbers to be considered a success. But it's obvious that Will Smith still has it. Not many were asking for a third MiB film after ten years and if the budget wasn't as big as it is, it would be a home run.Great numbers fot The Avengers. Some people are going way to far with it. It's already a historic run. Marvel could take it off the theaters today and it would still be a huge hit and a historic run. But sometimes it's good to keep some things grounded. 9.5m for Friday is a really good number, asking for more would be a bit unrealistic. All in all those are ok but completely expected numbers.
  19. Probably. But i don't know about toy sales neither am i interested in them. The movie will still be a disappointment. It was a bad move.
  20. No matter how much it will gain OS for being 3D it won't outweight the post conversion, the reshoots and the re-advertisement costs.
  21. Cameron says a lot of things all the time. I wouldn't take everything for granted. After the Avatar sequels he 'll make more movies non-Avatar related. Battle Angel will probably happen.
