  1. Hrm. Not saying this isnt true, but it certainly gets said a lot. Maybe its time to restart the BOT User Tracking.

  3. I recognize the drop in yen as a factor, but you're really understating the impact of sequels. First Avenger to Winter Soldier doubled, Iron Man to Iron Man 2 was up 50% and then IM2 to IM3 was a double. Thor to DW was the exception with a 5% increase. So the MCU is 4 for 4 on sequels increasing over their prior films, and 3 of the 4 were 50+%. Much lower bases than Avengers so that degree of gain is impossible. But the track record hardly presupposes a decline.
  4. Perhaps this is stating the obvious, but its a little late for JW to fail.
  5. I'm slowly getting less confident that AOU will stay under 1.425B WW. Edit - adding some detail, its at roughly 1.367 now and it made a little over 5m last week dom with good recent holds, plus its barely hanging on OS in a few places still with Japan to come. Lets say it makes another $12m ww ex-Japan. That means it has to be under $45m in Japan. Thats what Avengers made and being under that is 50/50 at best. AOU was up ~50% over Avengers in SKorea and Malaysia and up 200% in China, though it was down 20% in Singapore. Its funny, after Tomorrowland I thought this question was the slam dunk but its going to end up as the closest.
  6. In those days I remember thinking she was so hot I didnt care if she could act or not. On the bright side, her acting was terrific in Wild, and she's been good in other things so I guess I blame the directing in JP for that. Which is like complaining about a stray brush stroke on the Mona Lisa, but its still valid.
  7. Edit - Fine. Ive been out of town for a few weeks with sporadic internet access and am in no position to turn away points. Avengers
  8. Seriously. I just saw it with the kids (newly out of school) and we all loved it. No, it wasnt shakespere, but its perfectly worthy of taking the crown.
  9. Pratt was born to play Indiana Jones, albeit a lighter-hearted one than Harrison Ford. I hope he's planned out how he's goi g to spend the hundreds of millions he's going to earn over his acting career.
  10. Curious to see how the do the movie. The book really felt like a cool, spooky atmospheric story that halfway through changed its mind about what kind of story it wanted to in hopes of being more conventional and approachable, which really hurt the story, imo.
  11. At first I was impressed that Home has a higher Average than Poltergeist or Aloha, but then I saw that Blart2 is also beating them both and my reaction turned to pity.

  13. Yeah, at first, I was pondering when was the last time 3 movies were Wide released on the same weekend and all 3 were rated R. Then I realized the *horror* movie was PG-13 and was befuddled.
  14. Yeah. While the individual episodes had their stories and issues, the series itself mostly revolved around whether or not Vince would become a star or not. People forget that for the first 2-3 seasons, the guys had relatively little money or clout, and what trappings of glamour (floor seats for Laker games, etc) were mostly thanks to Ari intervening on their behalf. The show was at its peak. But at the beginning of Season 3, Aquaman opened big. Vince becomes a rich star, and that was kinda it for the tension on the show. After that, the show tried to manufacture tension by threatening Vince's status as a star with mixed success for a little while. Seasons 3 and 4 revolved around making Medellin, and parts of it were good, but parts of it were terrible. Season 5 ends with the whole Smokejumpers shoot where Vince is separated from the rest of the guys, is teamed with a director and co-star he simply cannot charm, and gets his confidence crushed while going broke. Its actually one of the stronger arcs of the entire series. But after that, its over. Season 6 opens with all the problems from the end of Season 5 magically fixed. The bulk of Season 6 is literally the gang entertaining themselves until Vince's next movie starts filming. Virtually everything goes their way until the end of the series, and the characterizations and plot arcs get more and more ridiculous. Vince's addiction problems in Season 8 probably would have been moving back in Season 3, but by the point they actually arrive they feel absurd and contrived, really the only question was how it'd be resolved before the series itself ends. For a minute it looked like they might actually kill Vince which would have been a pretty shocking way to go out. Instead, as expected, Vince cleans himself up almost instantly, his legal problems suddenly disappear, and he learns to love and gets married to someone who gets maybe 5 minutes of screen time. Its just as silly as the critics say. I will say that watching Ari chew the scenery was a delight over the entire run of the show, and his scenes with E, especially early on, were some of the best parts of the show. But once he started running into his own problems and the gang got too big for him to push around, the show essentially split into two parts: Vince and Ari, which only occasionally interacted with each other. It did actually make the show better, but only because the shark had already been jumped.
  15. Eh, I dunno. As bad as Entourage is supposed to be, it cannot possibly be as bad as Sex and the City 2 and that still managed a ~3x mult. Its legs could well be weak, but I don't think we can just assume that. Edit - If Entourage does 18m over the 3 day, it'll probably end up at least at 55m and possibly 60m. Which, in defense of Baumer's point, is probably still stronger than most folks expected. I'm pretty sure it got more votes for "Lowest 5" than "Top 12" in the BSG.
