  1. I meant JW will beat Infinity War. If black panther really turns out a 200M opening then I can't see infinity war outgrossing it. BP will have way stronger legs than Avengers and it's had previews to match so seems like it will be #1 for the year. Or, I could be wrong and it's super front loaded. We'll see.
  2. Thanks. Think it's just a language barrier thing, I'm glad we have users who are knowledgeable about the Chinese BO but most of the time I can't make sense of what they're saying.
  3. its really hard to discern what people are actually saying in the thread, the way the chinese users post in this thread with just some numbers that don't indicate what currency or time period they are talking about. So when I see "maoyan predicting 677M for MH2" is that 677M yuan opening day? $677M total? $677M opening weekend? 677M yuan presales? no idea
  4. Only seen 6 of the 10 noms so here they are, ranked... don't think Dunkirk or BR2049 should be on here, can I remove them as I didn't like them? Or do I have to rank all them. @The Mad Panda BEST PICTURE Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri Logan Star Wars: The Last Jedi Coco Dunkirk Blade Runner 2049 BEST DIRECTOR 1. 5. Tomorrowland Domestic Total Gross: $93,436,322 Distributor: Buena Vista Release Date: May 22, 2015 Genre: Sci-Fi Runtime: 2 hrs. 10 min. MPAA Rating: PG Production Budget: $190 million
  6. Infinity War. Can we have a poll? Black panther second biggest movie in the summer? You know it's February right now right?
  7. I've not seen Training Day, Fast and Furious or Bad Boys 2, and I don't like Heat, so I'm eyes wide open for den of Thieves
  8. Inside Out - hit Good Dino - flop Finding D - hit Cars 3 - flop Coco - hit Incredibles -
  9. well damn, I just looked on wikipedia and Bob Odenkirk & Jonathan Banks are in the movie. seems like Odenkirk is the villain of the movie?!!
  10. That actually makes it sound quite appealing, think I'll watch it on Netflix tonight. I did not see it! It's not true, it's bullshit, I did not see it! I did not. Oh, hi Han.
  11. eh, they weren't too far off. Nemo grossed 339M, Incredibles grossed 261M. Very strong numbers for both, Incredibles adjusts to 385M which is pretty similar to Frozen. not small numbers.
  12. i'm no china expert but there's plenty. - Pacific Rim definitely. First one made over 100M that was 5 years ago so I've got no doubt PR2 can do 150M, probably alot more. - Rampage. Kong made 168M last year and slightly edged out the US gross! by no means a guarantee, 150 is a lot, but definitely the potential to. Also Dwayne Johnson has starred in quite a few high grossing films in China so that probably helps. - Skyscraper. Pretty sure its a Chinese co-production and think it's set in China too. - Animated movies? A few animated films have done huge in China, although there's no clear pattern, seems a bit random. Coco and Zootopia did gangbusters as does Despicable Me. Theres Incredibles 2, Wreck it Ralph 2, Dr Seuss, not sure what else there is but definitely a possibility. - Mission Impossible. Rogue Nation did 135M in China, Fallout wouldn't have to increase much to reach 150M. - The Meg. Think this is also a Chinese funded movie, and co stars a Chinese actor so clearly targeting that market. - Mowgli. The Jungle Book grossed exactly 150M in China. - Bumblebee will do 150M but may not be this year. Think that's probably it of films that have realistic potential. Theres also the crop of superhero stuff + Predator which you never know might exceed the usual 120M barrier.
  13. It's only got to beat Fantastic Beasts and Aquaman, although wouldn't surprise me if Aquaman moves to feb 2019. Its also got a strong release date. I don't think either FB or AQ will get to 200M so this is very possible. I mean still unlikely. But why the fuck not? IN
  14. if WB can fool enough people into thinking Mowgli is a sequel to Jungle Book then I'm sure mowgli can make some of its money back
  15. Since when has "acting talent" defined box office draw? I mean when has Daniel Day-Lewis been a box office megastar? In terms of what draws audiences in, it's mostly about charisma, putting a smile on your face. Arnie was the biggest actor in the world for some time, I don't think he's ever gonna be an Oscar winner though. Actually Dwayne Johnson is pretty similar, looks like a tough guy macho man but is also very funny and likeable.
  16. If you're defining bomb by the film that loses the most money for the studio, then Wrinkle in Time. But films like Pacific Rim and Meg could gross less in the US but they will recover more costs internationally. Also depends on the budget. Not sure why Annihilation is on there. Equally, Tomb Raider will do worse than Wrinkle in Time but probably cost less. Mortal Engines and Ready Player One like said above should also be on there with Pacific Rim. Also why's Skyscraper on here? Isn't that a surefire hit from the Johnson?
  17. a bit disappointing tbh. its nice and the animation's tactile feel is just as good as it's always been, but I didn't find it that funny. nice way to kill time but not much more than that
  18. I would have been very happy with a Robocop franchise coming off the 2014 movie. Shame it didn't do very well, it really was nowhere near as bad as everyone said. Doesn't match the original but so what.
  19. theres a much higher black population in London... London won't represent the rest of the country. that's not to say it won't do huge business I'm just saying that if you see "bigger than Star Wars" in london like heretic says... well that's not going to be the case everywhere.
