  1. Doesn't it involve tesseract, the same physics tool that a certain cinematic universe like to use ?
  2. TJB will be short of $1B significantly. Zoo still has a very small chance of getting to $1B. Either way, they are wildly profitable already. No one can say with a straight face that either one is a failure.
  3. Nice article by Variety: http://variety.com/2016/film/asia/china-hollywood-blockbusters-batman-v-superman-1201756790/ The dueling-superheroes movie appeared to have a lot going for it, including a Friday day-and-date release on half the screens in the nation. But after suffering an 85% drop on its second Friday — placing fourth behind a trio of Chinese movies and “Zootopia” — the film was unsentimentally dumped by China’s exhibitors. At $94.9 million after 19 days of release, it is certain to finish below the $100 million mark, cuming less than last year’s clunky “Terminator: Genisys” ($113 million). Yet the Chinese box office is growing so fast — by 49% last year and by 50% in the first quarter of 2016 — that every major release should be breaking some kind of record. But there’s still debate as to whether “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” at $125 million, was a hit or a miss. And Hollywood-China co-production “Kung Fu Panda” was a clear disappointment in the popular animation category, taking in $147 million. Only Disney Animation’s “Zootopia,” which has minted more than $230 million and established a new Chinese box office record for an animated feature, seems to have fulfilled the market’s growing promise. The title is showing such good legs that regulators have granted it an extra month 2 weeks of release. “In just a few years, Chinese productions have become qualitatively better in both storytelling and production values,” said Marc Ganis, head of Jiaflix, a successful video-on-demand platform on the mainland, with ties to both Hollywood and China. “It is going to become more difficult for Hollywood to compete with an indigenous industry that is growing stronger.” Ganis said Hollywood films would continue to see box office returns in the $75 million-$150 million range in China, but that the territory’s massive annual increases in total B.O. revenue won’t translate to imported movies.
  4. From THR: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/russia-box-office-hollywood-local-884715 In 2015, Russian movies accounted for only 17.3 percent of the total box office in the country, while Hollywood releases accounted for the lion's share of the rest. This year, Russian films are expected to take a 20 percent share, according to forecasts from Neva Research, a leading Russian analytics company for the movie sector. That would be the best performance by local films since 2008. Russia cinema's gain, however, is unlikely to mean much pain for Hollywood. Neva predicts Russian films will steal audiences from European titles and smaller independent U.S. movies, not big studio tentpoles. The company said couldn't say how the overall increase in ticket sales for Russia movies would impact the projected box office for specific titles, genres or studios. .. In 2015, Russia's total box-office gross reached 48 billion rubles ($768 million), and, due to devaluation of the national currency, the ruble, it failed to hit the $1 billion mark for the first time since 2010.
  5. http://variety.com/2016/film/box-office/localization-makes-jungle-book-a-hit-in-india-1201758157/ Nice write-up about the localization work on TJB for India's distribution. Disney released Jon Favreau’s “The Jungle Book” in India on April 8, a week before its U.S. release and is reaping rich dividends. In 12 days of release the film has grossed $23.7 million, making it the highest Hollywood grosser of all time, “Furious 7” earned $23.4 million in 2015.) “The Jungle Book” also staved off the challenge of “Fan,” starring the popular Shah Rukh Khan that released April 15 and is currently underperforming with a $13.8 million gross. “The Jungle Book” release is the most recent example of Hollywood studios localizing content in India to increase audience share. The film was dubbed into Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, in addition to the English language version and was rolled out across 1,640 screens across the country. .... If these work, along with other major studio release campaigns, Hollywood’s market share in India could expand beyond the current 10%. Meanwhile, Disney which already holds the Bollywood crown with the all-time top box office grosser in “PK,”, now has the Hollywood tiara as well.
  6. from koimoi.com: http://www.koimoi.com/box-office/hits-flops/verdict-2016/ http://www.koimoi.com/box-office/box-office-fan-goes-down-during-the-week-the-jungle-book-sustains-very-well/ On the other hand The Jungle Book has continued to be ultra strong and started collecting better than even Fan as the week progressed. The film has now collected122.5 crore* and is all set to go past Airlift [129 crore] this weekend. It would emerge as the biggest grosser of 2016 in 17 days flat. 7. In general, the more voices available, the better is the prediction. And any prediction can become wrong, so not going to blame anyone if the prediction is askew. TJB will really have a tough time to get to $1B USD, if it can't even get to 1B yuan.
  8. Well, TJB is going to be fine, but it will probably be less than Zoot. Will it reach 1B yuan or more? This is where we are missing the Firedeep's knowledge on how a movie would behave on its run.
  9. Deadline says TJB: $13.7million - 9.65million pounds.
  10. So, with about $12.4M OD, and about $50M weekend, how far will TJB go? $120-150M? Will 1B yuan be achievable?
  11. So, Zoo is leggier than the leggy Kingsman in SK.
  12. Wow, Zoo is only weakening ever so slightly, and still at no. 2. That is actually quite a bit higher than the last Sat or Sunday. BvS is already at no. 8. THWW opened at no. 3, about 2000 admissions behind Zoo's Day 57.
  13. Zootopia is still at no.3 with 2.215 billion rubles. At current rate, that's about 32-33 million USD. So, why is zootopia so popular in Russia?
  14. I thought DM2 tied up the story nicely. I fell asleep watching Minions on the sofa. Not sure where DM3 will go from there - but it might go down from DM2.
  15. Zoo is finally showing some weakening during the SK weekdays. It has been a pretty nice run though.
