China Box Office Thread | Oppenheimer-August 30
fastclock replied to A Marvel Fanboy's topic in China At The Box Office
When I said there was a bias towards Disney, it was not a "bought" vote or unnatural conspiracy. Disney has been focusing on tentpoles and they have been mostly very good. This film making branding is really working for them. -

Like @Telemachossays critics are people. They remembered original SW movies. They probably watched all Marvel movies. But they also watched many other movies and can compare them to the Disney ones. So there is a bias towards Disney as a brand. That s likely. But american critics also like well-made movies. They like storylines that build towards the payoff final moments in the movie. They don't like plot holes. They don't like illogical out of nowhere moments. CW is a good example because it's a movie that really builds on its payoff moment while still having fun in between. it might be boring if you just like the action. The opposite ends would Probably be Warcraft. If you understand where they're coming, the reviews then makes sense and you can devise for yourself whether you're going to watch the movie or not. -

Jackie Chan is just trying to fire up the Shanghai festival attendees. Saying that they have an important say in what movies got produced, and that would even be bigger if a movie made 1.5Billion. If the Chinese films are successful, than films original language would shift to Chinese instead of English. Then, English actors would need to learn to speak Chinese instead of Chinese actors having to learn to speak English. -
THE GOOD DINOSAUR | 209.1 M overseas | 332.2 M worldwide
fastclock replied to kayumanggi's topic in International Box Office
If it had not had a troubled production and total rebuilt - and had the budget stayed at $175M, I wonder whether this film would not have broken even at $350M WW. The physical video sales according to the-numbers is now at ~$48M - so that is about $32M net. That is a solid #2 in the chart, right underneath the might SW7. Plus additional digital income that is not tracked. So, the ancillaries are not bad. As it is, budget+marketing is probably at $350M, making it unlikely to break even even after the last dollar is counted. -

If WC in the US has $30M OW and 2.0 multiplier, that's $60M total. If the club says 4x DOM, China needs to deliver $240M. Still possible. -

Exactly: just make it look like FF7 for all ages and Zoo's humor sprinkled in...

And then... Disney push it across $400m. Well, hopefully it will not come to that.

ZOOTOPIA | 682.5 M overseas ● 1023.8 M worldwide
fastclock replied to kayumanggi's topic in International Box Office
ZOOTOPIAPutting $5.7M in the hopper this weekend, Disney’s animated charmer lifted its cume to $639M overseas and $970.8M global. This is remarkably the 14th weekend of offshore play where it is still in 17 markets. Notably, Japan, which is driving the current box office, leapt 7% in the three-day versus last weekend and brought in $4.2M. The cume there is $35.6M which makes it the No. 3 international market, just behind of the UK ($39.9M) and China ($235.6M). -
So, when will Disney have no 1,2,3 worldwide? When TJB pass BvS?

One more question: how do we get the whole box office run of a movie? When I click on the movie title in kobis, it gives a movie sheet with the box office of the first 10 days and the last 10 days. Sorry, not sure whether I was looking in the right place.

I thought conversion is mostly done based on the opening day exchange rate? At this point, don't go too much into details for these international results. Don't agonize with the numbers and don't get too pessimistic over numbers. Just enjoy the numbers when they come in. If it gets to $1B, that is great. If not, it is still pretty good result. -
Monday (5.9.16) #s: Cap3: $13.29m / JB: $1.52m
fastclock replied to TalismanRing's topic in Numbers and Data
Well, CA:CW is a Cap-sequel that has many of the Avengers - so w should expect the number to fall between CA2 and the AOU. It looks like it will do that, closer to AOU, but short of it.
