  1. I think Jessica Chastain is a great choice; she even has experience in horror films, even experience with the director (Mama). So this makes a lot of sense.
  2. I went ahead and made a club for this film based on the fact that it is the second film from the distributor Aviron; Strangers: Prey at Night over Kidnap. That would mean that it'd cross $30M total in the domestic landscape. And because of low horror and March competition, I think it just might. I mean, the film still has to be good...
  3. Christopher Nolan is a great director but I don't see him as a good fit for Bond in my opinion. I can't wait to see who will direct this new one, though, and I do hope that the film itself chooses to largely disconnect itself from the other Craig Bond films.
  4. I think it's because Marvel has varying types of fans; not all of them can see the newest Marvel film on opening weekend, but that doesn't mean they cease to be interested!
  5. 2013 will be a fun year to make a list of, for me at least. So many good movies are from that year... I can't believe I missed the time period to make a list for 2012, a year that has quite a few of my all-time favorites (Les Miserables, Moonrise Kingdom, Life of Pi, Skyfall, The Dark Knight Rises, yada, yada, yada).
  6. Bad Samaritan seems like a horror film (or a horror thriller), but I'm not sure if it is.
  7. I think it's interesting to see Peter Rabbit pull ahead of Fifty Shades Freed for the weekend; Peter Rabbit will likely be the modest success it deserves to be in the States, and it'll use overseas as a platform for profit. Both Jumanji and Greatest Showman are holding better than I ever thought they would. I hope Pure Flix learns from the fact that 15:17 to Paris grossed 4x Samson's amount this weekend. If Pure Flix wants to make a better statement in the film industry, they need to try harder. I still think Early Man's gross is disheartening. Very undeserved disappointment. They should've chosen a better date. I'm rooting for Maze Runner to make as much as it can, but it seems like it is sputtering out. Maybe it can reach $60 million domestic. We'll see. Interestingly, the people behind Den of Thieves have yet to announce their box office numbers. And all of the 2017 prestige / Oscar-candidate films are losing theaters like crazy; I don't know what the deal is, but this year just isn't the year for them for them to strike it big with audiences. (Though Hostiles losing over 1,000 theaters is the one that makes sense to me.)
  8. I think he'd rather fight one horse sized duck. I haven't seen the film yet, but I feel like an intelligent fighter like T'Challa would get more out of fighting one big opponent.
  9. So I just watched the trailer and the film does seem kind of interesting. I prefer horror that isn't supernatural so I would probably be more open to watching this than other horror films. Only The Brave revealed to me that a director who falters with big-budget films can really surprise audiences with smaller films (Joseph Kosinski, transitioning from Tron Legacy and Oblivion). So maybe the same will be true for Dean Devlin. After all, Devlin did direct 16 episodes of a TV show called Leverage, which had good reviews overall, and that wasn't nearly as bombastic scope-wise as Geostorm.
  10. FYC: Why Richard Strickland should win Best Villain While the category was recently talked about, I wanted to express why I think Richard Strickland (The Shape of Water) should win Best Villain. First of all, we can tell that this villain is a violent, self-centered, and self-righteous man who is willing to do awful things to get what he wants. But there's more things wrong with him than that. The character of Richard Strickland is known to be religious, making countless references to God and the Bible. But he is severely misrepresenting the faith as a whole; true followers of the Christian faith operate on love and peace; they do not use the fact that the are 'righteous' to bully others into submission. Strickland is a religious hypocrite and a false prophet; he takes many actions and makes many threats that a true man of faith would never choose to do. Strickland is a picture of a very real evil, and for that, the villain not only got my vote, but drove me to abstain from picking a runner-up. For a man who thinks of himself as close to God, yet remains far away from God, is a man who forgoes God's message for a message that the man himself would rather follow instead. That is why the very despicable caricature of Richard Strickland should hands down be the winner of Best Villain in my opinion.
  11. I feel like I am legitimately interested in only 3 anime from Winter 2018... only one of them is a Crunchyroll anime (A Place Further than the Universe), and the other two are Amazon anime (After the Rain, Kokoku). The rest are either uninteresting or filled with content I definitely don't want to watch.
  12. It's awesome to see Black Panther have a chance at crossing 200M. Just a few months ago, I thought it's weekend would be roughly the amount that it got on Friday alone. I'm also happy to see that Samson is even on the Top 10 at all; it's currently in 9th, but maybe it can edge out Maze Runner to get 8th. Seeing Early Man left out in the cold like this is disheartening. It probably deserved a lot better than this. When it was going to release, it couldn't have known Black Panther, along with Jumanji, Greatest Showman, and Peter Rabbit, would swarm it like they seem to be. Another thought: faith-based audiences are largely choosing to see 15:17 to Paris over Samson. Pure Flix needs to step up their quality game.
  13. I didn't this would do well at first, but if the film is highly rated, I'll be happy to be wrong. I think it could come close to Wonder's total and make the rest overseas. That'd be enough to validate the risk.
  14. 61% as of this writing... The question's gonna be, will this or will this not get a fresh rating? Because it really is teetering. I think Jennifer Lawrence is in a position where she kind of needs this to succeed. I mean, a success would definitely help to keep her position going. She's a very talented actress, and there's no doubt that Jennifer Lawrence was at least a credible reason why films like Joy and Passengers were able to do as well as they did. In fact, she could hit a dry spot and probably still get a Cecil B. DeMille award in the future. But it'd be a shame if her appeal dropped not because of her but because of the roles she chose. I think this can still do well, but I'm not sure if it'll do as well as I initially thought.
  15. I remember 2015 when they didn't have the horror category because, well, It Follows was going to be the film that won the category, no doubt about that.
  16. 1. Annihilation 2. Isle of Dogs 3. Tomb Raider 4. I Can Only Imagine 5. Strangers: Prey at Night 6. Paul, Apostle of Christ 7. Unsane 8. Ready Player One 9. 7 Days in Entebbe 10. Lens on Pete (March may seem like a weak month in box office prospects, but to me, many of the films themselves seem very interesting. I have my eye on many smaller films- at least for now.)
  17. http://m.imdb.com/title/tt6495094/ A new adaption of the classic novel by Louisa May Alcott has been added to BoxOfficeMojo's upcoming release schedule. The cast includes Lea Thompson (Back to the Future), Ian Bohen (Teen Wolf), and Lucas Gabreel (High School Musical, Switched at Birth). This is the directorial and screenwriting debut of young actress / costume designer Clare Niederpruem. In my opinion, this is the boldest decision Pure Flix / Quality Flix has made, release wise. Little Women is currently set to release on Sepremier 28th against Lionsgate horror film Hell Fest, Universal comedy Night School, and Warner Animation Group's Smallfoot.
  18. Crazy Rich Asians is gonna be a breakout for sure. It will definitely be a pleasant surprise like Girls Trip.
  19. I guess there's only so much even a director like Michael Bay can take.
  20. Martin Scorcese is significant to my life because he won the Golden Globes Cecil B. DeMille award the first year I watched the awards show. And there were so many different kinds of breathtaking imagery in his promo video; so many engrossing things to look at, so many references from films I've never heard of. I didn't realize it at the time, but I think that's what made me realize that filmmakers can make so many different kinds of films with their talents. It was probably a reason why I drifted more towards film in the first place.
